Local Club Shops for Back-to-School
Linda, Ca.

Members of the 2013 Yuba-Sutter Fair Royal Court were on hand at the Linda Walmart on Saturday, August 10th . They served as volunteers for the annual back-to-school shopping spree hosted by South Yuba County Rotary Club. Each year Club members and volunteers assemble with students and their parents identified as being in need of basic necessities for the school year. This year the Club received a matching grant from Rotary International, so it was able to shop with 30 students rather than the usual 15!

Buying new clothes for the first day of school is an annual American ritual. Not every family in South Yuba County can afford this luxury for their children. As
if meeting new teachers and students—possibly at a new school—doesn’t bestow enough stress, arriving on that critical first day without something fresh and new to wear only adds to diminished self-esteem.

T-shirts, jeans, undergarments, shoes, school supplies and much more were delightfully chosen by each child with the guidance of their assigned Rotary or Royal Court volunteer. Walmart generously donated a pack filled with goodies for each child.

You can be a part of fun community activities like this throughout the year. Join or volunteer for Rotary! It’s not your grandfather’s club anymore.
