Nilda Valmores has had the honor of serving as the Executive Director of My Sister's House for the past 14 years. My Sister's House is the Central Valley's domestic violence shelter that focuses on helping Asian and Pacific Islander victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking.
My Sister's House provides outreach and education to help prevent domestic violence and human trafficking, a 24/7 multi-lingual help line, a 6 bed shelter and a 6 bed transitional house,6 bed shelter for trafficked victims, and a Women to Work Program to help domestic violence survivors get back on their feet financially, including operating My Sister's Café at 455 Capitol Mall, in Sacramento.
Nilda has more than 25 years of experience living and working in Sacramento with local and statewide non-profit organizations that help low-income families. Under her leadership, My Sister's House has expanded its services, increased its number of clients and volunteers, and has earned a growing recognition in Sacramento, the Central Valley, and the state.
When not dealing with My Sister's House, Nilda enjoys spending time annoying her family and eating good french fries.
Once again, on Friday September 22 Rotary Club of Laguna Sunrise sponsored a playwrite workshop in Title 1 Fourth Grade classes in the Elk Grove Unified School District. These workshops help excite students to learn more about reading and writing - and it was fun! The B Street Theatre Playwriting teach at Barbara Comstock Morse Elementary helped students to unleash their creativity.
