Become a Person of Action with Metro Lubbock Rotary
There are many opportunities for Metro Rotarians to do good and bring positive change in Lubbock. Our club has service opportunities throughout the year.
Lubbock Meals On Wheels- Every Friday
Metro Rotary operates two routes for Lubbock Meals On Wheels every Friday. Club members are required to receive training from Meals on Wheels before signing up to volunteer. Contact Bill Evans to become a certified driver and sign up to deliver delicious meals to home-bound neighbors.
Rotary Readers- Once a Week During the School Year
In Fall 2019, Metro Rotary began partnering with Greater Southwest Lubbock Rotary Club on early literacy support for Hodges Elementary School. One member from each club volunteers to spend time once a week with school-selected students who may benefit from extra attention devoted to reading skills. Contact Bonnie Schwarzentraub to become a Rotary Reader!
Metro MOWers- Occasional
Metro MOWers team up to mow lawns for seniors and disabled persons on our Meals On Wheels routes. Opportunities arise when a MOWing request is made. Non-members are welcome to join us in tackling these lawns! Ken Patterson organizes our MOWing efforts, so reach out to him if you'd like to whack some weeds! Non-members should contact the club to learn more.
Club Committees
Membership Committee
The Membership Committee helps people of action become Metro Rotarians by guiding them through the membership process. This committee also celebrates member achievements and offers care to members who encounter a challenge in their lives. If you want to make a difference in the lives of our club members, this is the committee for you! Talk to Membership Chair Wayne Moore about how you can participate.
Oktoberfest Committee
The Oktoberfest Committee plans our annual fundraiser benefiting Lubbock Meals On Wheels and other club causes. Committee members secure corporate sponsors, plan the decorations, acquire silent auction items, and so on. If you're a creative event planner, get in touch with Oktoberfest Chair Jamel Vaughn and Co-Chair Dennis Jack.
Rotary Foundation Committee
Our Metropolitan Club Foundation Committee consists of experienced, dedicated Rotarians who work together to help our Club President educate, motivate, and inspire Rotarians to participate in all areas of The Rotary Foundation (TRF). Our Committee is the connection between TRF and club members. We stay informed with TRF programs, grants, and activities in order to share new opportunities with our members for club and personal participation and support of the Foundation motto, "Doing Good in the World". Contact Susan Brints to get involved with the Foundation Committee.
