Last Friday our speaker was Denise Selmo, some of her students from Brazil, and two American teachers who are doctoral students in STEM education at Tech.

Guests: We were joined by several guests joining our speaker, Denise Selmo; including, Linda Rost, Jocelyn Miller, Missie Olson, Kaylynn, and several students in Brazil. Momo Duduboy Taylor, Jr. (friend of Cal) also joined us for the second week in a row. DG Bonnie joined us, as well. Curt McClure joined us as well!
Brags: Rich bragged on his fashion sense, Rotary Swag! Phil bragged on the Lubbock healthcare system (thanks, Rose!). KathyP bragged on her recovery, requesting motivation from us to help her rebuild herself to serve more. Thanks, Steve, for converting the house to "rehab-central." Ken bragged on Phil for his leadership with Unsung Heroes, as well as the Boy Scouts for putting our nearly 700 flags on Veterans Day. Dennis bragged on the leadership of the club, creativity and motivation. Joe bragged on his physical therapist.

Dr. Michael Pendleton Memorial Fund: An endowed fund has been established at The Rotary Foundation in memory of Dr. Michael Pendleton, husband of our District Governor, Bonnie Pendleton. This endowment's interest will flow through the Foundation's SHARE system for District 5730 to use on district projects in perpetuity. The board met this week and decided we will dedicate $500 as a club. If you would like to donate individually, checks to "The Rotary Foundation" should be directed to Katie Salter, 2615 Ridge Road, Lubbock, TX 79403.

On 23 February 1905, Harris, Gustavus Loehr, Silvester Schiele, and Hiram Shorey gathered at Loehr's office in Room 711 of the Unity Building in downtown Chicago. This was the first Rotary club meeting. They decided to call the new club “Rotary” after the practice of rotating meeting locations.

Two snails went to an auto race. There were twenty six cars, so instead of numbers the cars were identified by letters from A to Z. As the race started, the S car quickly sped away from the trailing pack of cars. Seeing this, the one snail said to the other, "Hey, look at that S car go!"
