As the funeral was ending, an elegant elderly stranger approached the widow and asked if he could say a word to the crowd. She nodded assent, so he stood in front if the crowd and in a deeply moving voice, said "plethora," then sat down. Her eyes filled with tears as she responded, "Oh, thank you so much. That meant a lot to me."

____ Last Week's Program_________

Program
Our program last week was by Jennifer Wallace, General Manager of the Panhandle South Plains Fair. Notes from the talk (from Ingrid):
  • Founded in 1914, and funded by operational revenue.
  • Plans are Sep 25th - Oct 3rd for the next fair.
  • Usually over 1,000 animal entries, over 5,000 exhibits, and awards total $100,000.
  • Includes Ag mechanics and open crops, carnival rides, fair food, and commercial vendors.
  • An estimated $1 million goes back into the community.
  • Many use the fair as fundraisers.
  • Entertainment changes every two years.
  • Last year the Fair grounds hosted the TTU Rodeo.
The livestock Barns are undergoing renovations.
  • Service: Thanks, Metrotarians, for your service every week leading us in the pledge, prayer, 4-way test, MOW delivery, and more!
  • Guests: We were joined by Kurt McClure (who has had perfect attendance in Rotary for 50 years), and Kathy Smith (semi-retired Special Ed teacher; no relation to Walter other than close friend).
  • Brags: Ken bragged on son and daughter-in-law for help trimming trees and building a wishing well. Bonnie bragged on a wedding in her family. Joe bragged on Kathy Smith who recently planted lovely flowers in front of the Dominey home. Walter bragged on West Texas traveling, seeing the sights.
