Notes from BOD Meeting March 13 2018 with District Governor Harry Kieling

Harry gave a big Thank You to our club and all 40 clubs in District 5010 our district's 1752 members are working hard to meet the goals set for this year.  His top 4 Goals are

  1. Polio Plus  - Rotary is doing good on Polio but still have a way to go - there have been 3 new cases in Afghanistan.  Currently Afghanistan and Pakistan are the only active countries.  Ponder this fact:  IF ROTARY had NOT decided to eradicate Polio there would be 14 MILLION kids with polio today.  The Iditarod Re-start party on Long Lake at the home of the Erickson's is always a fun time and great way to raise funds for Polio Plus - unofficial number put the amount raise this year over $6,000 with the bulk of donations from A.I.R. members
  2. Membership - This is a BIG priority  District need net 27 new members, our club and Harry’s(Downtown) we are both down members and need to replace the members who have departed our clubs.  Harry has promised matching funds up to $200 for a membership event - so if you have ideas contact Tim Trueblood.  Harry will need to see an outline and after action report for matching funds.  President Elect Debra Mason said AIR is reviewing the bylaws to perhaps include new membership types such as family and business, and other attendance ideas to make rotary membership on potential new members.  Harry noted that our club can adapt our bylaws to accommodate out needs.
  3. District Project - Rotary Cares for Kids - this is a back pack/duffle bag project for children being removed from unsafe homes and going into foster care.  The back pack/duffle bag contains age appropriate comfort items.  The hope is to make this a sustainable project.
  4. Administration Processes - This is for streaming processes within clubs to watch financial reports, and incorporating things into the district level easier.

Harry encouraged everyone to register for the District Conference in Seward May 17-20  to date 165 have registered.  A Rotary fishing vest is available to early registrants.  There will be great speakers and a NID team from India and Iditarod musher Mitch Seavey.
