Thank you to Paul Bowers, the manager of Merrill Field, for updating us on what is happening at Anchorage's oldest air field.

8% of registered aircraft in the state of Alaska reside at Merrill Field Airport (MRI). We learned that aircraft painting is big business and there are many new hangars being built at Merrill Field. The leasehold and safety improvements are impressive for a mature airport. A Municipality Enterprise, Merrill Field does not rely on Muni or State funding.

The airfield is built on top of a reclaimed landfill and as manager, Paul gets to deal with everything from lease holdings and sink holes, to noise complaints from the surrounding residential neighborhoods and security improvements to prevent vandalism. MRI is the only airport in the nation that has dedicated taxiway access to the helipad at the adjacent regional hospital.

Saint Patrick's Day Spirit

Everyone was in the Saint Patrick's Day Spirit at last Friday's meeting, but nobody could top the toppers worn by President Bruce Erickson and Past President Greg Wakefield. May the luck of the Irish be with you!

Heather Tarrant receives her Blue badge!

Congratulations to Heather Tarrant for swapping her red badge for a blue badge. Baby Emily, being held by dad Jonathan, was not so happy about it, crying the entire time, while Heather was getting her new blue badge.
