Bio - Professor Emeritus Paul Dayton was born in Tucson, AZ, and received a BSc in zoology from the University of Arizona. He earned a PhD in zoology from the University of Washington, Seattle. Dayton received the E. O. Wilson Naturalist Award from the American Society of Naturalists and the Faculty Research Lecture Award from the UCSD Division of the Academic Senate besides many awards too many to list here. He has worked with the U.S. Marine Mammal Commission and the UC Natural Reserve System. He is a member of the ESA and the American Society of Naturalists, and is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Prof. Dayton is a professor of oceanography in the Integrative Oceanography Division at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California, San Diego. A biological oceanographer, Dayton researches coastal and estuarine habitats, including seafloor (“benthic”) and kelp communities, as well as global fisheries. He has conducted investigations in several parts of the world, including spending 50 months in McMurdo Sound, Antarctica, performing research during more than 500 dives under the ice. The scientific papers resulting from these research projects are largely believed to have set the standard for Antarctic undersea ecology. Since 1993 Chris has designed and led numerous free market social purpose initiatives and innovations that have solved homelessness permanently for over 4,500 people and is credited to fund raise more than $150,000. Our club also supports the organization that we raise thru Bocce Ball. His trademark impact is his “get up, suit up and show up” model of leadership in which he leads from the front, a style of servant leadership that he learned as a U.S. Marine. This approach has reduced welfare costs by over $50,000,000 and reduced the future cost burden on society by an estimated $120,000,000. He has won many esteemed awards too many to list here. |

George joins his daughter Dina Reh, Founder of the organization, in organizing and launching Club-ABLE. George is a retired DuPont executive with over 25 years of corporate management experience. As a corporate development director in Healthcare and Bio-technology, George was responsible for searching out new business opportunities for the DuPont Corporation. He had managed among others, diagnostic imaging businesses and clinical diagnostic business of the corporation. After retiring from DuPont, he assisted several small start-up enterprises in the diagnostic and medical imaging fields. Mr. Reh is an entrepreneur with a successful track record. He currently is General Manager of the family business started by his wife Josephina Reh called Dutch Touch, Inc, in business for 18 years and providing services such as house-keeping, handyman services, and landscaping. |

Ms. Durán coordinates outreach, education, empowerment, and advocacy services for women, children, and families impacted by HIV. Ms. Durán is a Certified Health Education Specialist who has developed and implemented trauma-informed programming at Christie’s Place focused on health education, access, and retention for women living with HIV and their family members. In addition to a variety of local presentations, she has presented to national audiences on trauma-informed service provision in HIV service settings. |

After listening to the discussions in our monthly Presidents meeting, I believe it was the consensus that your clubs did not want to come and hear just another “typical” speaker but something more “entertaining”. So, I believe you will all be pleased with the selection of Amy Scruggs, National Recording Artist, TV Show Host and Public Speaker. Amy is an accomplished jazz/pop vocalist & pianist and has also has opened for many county greats! And, she is also a member of the RSF Rotary Club! Amy has overcome tremendous circumstances and obstacles and now uses that to bring hope and encouragement through her music. She has a passion for supporting our troops and her patriotism shines through her music. In 2011, at the request of the US Army, Amy was chosen to perform the National Anthem at Dodger Stadium for the 10 year anniversary of 9/11. I feel confident that the members of our Area 4 Clubs will really enjoy Amy’s musical performance as well as be inspired by her story. He has worked for the department since 2000 and currently works with 10news in San Diego providing traffic reports on the newscasts. Along with his media duties he also continues to work with the department providing community outreach along with several presentations a year ranging from Distracted Driving, Alcohol Awareness and Teen Driving programs . This includes community education and outreach, participant and volunteer recruitment, alumni engagement and event planning as well as coordination and execution of the many details that go into the summer program. Sarah served as the San Diego Assistant Program Director in 2016 as well as one of the leadership training facilitators. She received her BA from Vanguard University in Cultural Anthropology and her MS from George Mason University in Conflict Resolution. She has worked for multiple non-profits specializing in community development. Bio: Roger Liles was stationed in Turkey and Germany for 5 years as a USAF Signals Officer and stayed in europe for 8 years. As a military electronics officer for 40 years, Roger's main function was to translate engineering jargon to understandable english and communicate to thesenior officers of the US Government in written and verbal form. Roger completed BA and then graduate studies in Modern European History and also completed his MS in Engineering from USC in 1971. In the 1990s he began taking novel writing classes at UCLA, and writing for pleasure. Now retired, he spends full time writing.
