EVENT: January 5, 2018 TITLE: Random Acts of Culture BIO: Joey Landwehr is the proud Artistic Director for JCompany Youth Theatre. Joey has won over 40 awards for his work with young artists in San Diego, including a special creativity award for shaving his head with his lead in THE KING AND I, Yul Brynner style, and raising over $10,000 for Rady Children’s Hospital's Cancer Unit - earning him the title Joey "Do Anything For The Arts" Landwehr. Joey moved to San Diego after being a professional actor and director in New York City working on and off Broadway, national tours, regional theatre and directing and soloing at Carnegie Hall. Joey received his MFA in acting and directing from The Ohio State University and has had the great privilege of working with such greats as Phyllis Diller, Sam Harris & Howard Keel. Since moving to San Diego, Joey has worked for the San Diego Performing Arts League as Membership and Community Development Director; in 2007 he received the “40 Under 40” Award from San Diego Metropolitan Magazine for outstanding leadership in the arts. Joey was also honored as the 2011 Newsmaker in the Arts. In 2016, Joey was further recognized when the City of San Diego proclaimed October 18th Joey Landwehr Day. At JCompany he has had the privilege of directing Rumplestilskin is My Name, Oliver!, Yours, Anne, Annie, Disney's Beauty and the Beast, The Story of Hansel and Gretel, Disney's The Jungle Book, Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida, Disney's 101 Dalmations, etc.

He has two decades of senior international management experience in technology systems integration, energy management, communications and renewable energy. He was a founding partner in the international consulting practice Crichton Hill LLC. Prior to Crichton Hill, Wheatley was CEO of iAxis FZ LLC, a Dubai based alternative energy and technology systems integration company. From 2000 to 2007, he held a variety of senior management positions at San Diego based Kratos Defense and Security Solutions, aka Wireless Facilities with the last five years as President of ENS, the largest independent security and energy management systems integrator in the USA. Being raised by an Interior Designer Mom, she knew that creating beauty in the home and work environment was her passion and narrowed it down to the final & most exciting stage of a project - the artwork!! With the invaluable genius of her husband Raul, they can truly ‘install it all’, from antique doors to didgeridoos, her team can expertly arrange and install not only Fine Art but literally anything!! She looks forward to sharing some fun art stories!!
Interesting note: Lizz’s Mom (Norma Benjamin) began the Cedros Design District back in 1980! The Belly Up Tavern owner, David Hodges (now deceased) agreed to rent out his quonset huts to artists and artisans as her Mom promised him “this is a great area for an art community” - and we now know it to be that & more!! Her Mom is still kicking at 90 and lives with Lizz & Raul in Escondido.

He served as City Council member in Del Mar for 14 years and Mayor three times. He is still working and helping a company that builds inflatable air supported greenhouses. His mission is to feed the world. Why not go big?
This string of pearls refers to the parks they are creating in countries that rim the Pacific Ocean. An attempt to create dialogue around common interests.

EVENT: 16feb18 TOPIC: IBD : A Real Pain in the Gut – Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation BIO: Carly is a native of Redding California, where she aspired to a life of service at a young age while watching her mother's community leadership through the Redding East Rotary. Carly attended the University of California, Davis where she played intercollegiate volleyball and graduated with a dual Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Communications. Carly began her career with the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation in 2007, co-launching the national endurance program, Team Challenge, then taking the helm as Executive Director in San Diego in 2011. Carly resides in Solana Beach with her husband, sons Jack and Travis, and Labrador Retriever, Zack. She is a proud Paul Harris Fellow.
Megan Nicholson is the Development Coordinator at Crohn's and Colitis Foundation. She was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis right when she turned 25, which was quite a surprise since she had never been sick in her life. She is going to tell us her story at the end.
Fun fact: She used to be a lead dancer for a world famous Tahitian dance company out of LA. For 13+ plus years she would go on yearly tours with them internationally to entertain and promote cultural awareness of the Tahitian and Polynesian cultures.

A new project called PostSecret will be opening in April 2018. BIOs: Claudia Ehrlich serves as Chief Development Officer for SDMoM. Prior to joining the Museum, she held high level development positions at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, UCSD’s Rady School of Management, Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center as well as other nonprofits across the country. Claudia holds a BA in Social Sciences from UC Berkeley and an MBA from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University in Bloomington where she did collaborative work with the IU Center on Philanthropy. Erika Katayama, a native of Oceanside, serves as Director of Exhibits for SDMoM. She has held previous positions at various museums across the country, including Louisiana State Museum, Smithsonian Institution, Oklahoma City Museum of Art, and Dallas Museum of Art. Ms. Katayama earned a BA from UC Santa Cruz in Art History and Education and a MA from Louisiana State University Baton Rouge in Art History.

BIO: Charlotte Fan, came from Taipei Taiwan in 1982 and has a master’s degree in Community/Social Psychology. Charlotte joins Meals on Wheels 19 years ago and continues to serve as North County Manager coordinating over 500 clients and 700 volunteers. Charlotte is married with 4 grown children- a dentist, a speech language therapist, a registered nurse, and a student graduating soon from the pharmacy school at UCSF.
One fun fact about Charlotte – One of Charlotte’s favorite pastimes is eating. Some people like to cook and Charlotte likes to eat and Charlotte would like to make sure our seniors eat well and age well at home.

Greg has weaved his passion for artistic expression into launching art, music, theater, and yoga programs at TERI. BIOs: Mr. Everard Meade & Ms. Necla Tschirji Ev Meade is Director of the Trans-Border Institute at the University of San Diego, where he leads certificate programs in peacebuilding and human rights in the areas of Mexico most affected by the drug war, and directs the Trans-Border Opportunities Certificate Program, a field-based introduction to the politics, places, people, and products that define the U.S.-Mexico border. Before coming to USD in 2014, Dr. Meade was a professor in the History Department and co-founder of the Human Rights Program at UC San Diego. Dr. Meade served as an expert witness in immigration courts across the country, in dozens of asylum cases involving Mexican nationals fleeing the current wave of violence. He regularly briefs U.S. law enforcement and foreign service officers on country conditions in Mexico and he is a frequent Op-Ed contributor on related issues. Necla Tschirgi is Professor of Human Security and Peacebuilding at the Joan B. Kroc School of Peace Studies at the University of San Diego where her research focuses on conflict prevention and peacebuilding. Previously, she served as Senior Policy Advisor with the UN Peacebuilding Support Office in New York and Vice President of the International Peace Academy, where she led IPA’s Security-Development Nexus research program. A native of Turkey, Dr. Tschirgi received her B.A. and M.A. in political science at the American University of Beirut and her Ph.D. in political economy at the University of Toronto.

BIO: William (Bill) Lawrence has served as Executive Director of the San Diego History Center since February 2016 after joining the History Center in July 2015 as Chief Operating Officer. Prior to joining the History Center Bill’s professional career spanned three decades with the KFMB Stations (KFMB-TV, AM & FM), providing a “front row seat” to the history being made in our region. For more than a decade Bill was also an adjunct faculty member of Southwestern Community College having taught broadcast writing, photography and production. Bill has long been interested in San Diego history and has served on the boards of a number of local planning and historic preservation groups. He is the creator of BorregoModern.com, dedicated to the preservation and appreciation of the mid-century modern architecture of Borrego Springs, San Diego’s County’s desert resort.
He and his wife Suzanne reside in both San Diego and Borrego Springs.

Julie oversees BFI's programming, funding and implementation of projects. Her love for Burundi grew in 2011 when she taught English at Light University. With no resources except a blackboard and a piece of chalk, Julie taught English Communication to 70 college students for 4 hours each day and since then, her passion to create more opportunities for Burundians hasn't stopped. Julie's other career is as a musician having played at local churches for the past 20 years.

But now he has come full circle, founding Confidential Recovery a substance abuse treatment facility for working adults who require a high level of confidentiality for their treatment. Sara is a Stanford-certified compassion facilitator and leads trainings globally for people of all ages and backgrounds, including inmates, business leaders, students, educators, and healthcare providers. She was a contributing author to the book "The Neuroscience of Learning and Development" and also writes for The Chopra Center. Interesting fact: I was the female vocalist in a local indie band that broke up in 2015.

Like most writers, he struggled in the beginning, until he realized he needed to Look Beyond The Page. This realization, coupled with being mentored by Robert McKee (Story) for two years and then co-writing a screenplay with him and co-writing a screenplay with Ted Post, who directed Clint Eastwood in Hang ‘Em High and Magnum Force, changed his life. Michael has written several screenplays and books, has screen credit, traveled the world researching projects, and a screenplay that made it to the top 20 in the PAGE International Screen Writing Awards. Michael’s strength is coaching writer’s to rewire their brain and look beyond the page. Michael’s book, Look Beyond The Page , will be completed shortly. === |

He was elected to Del Mar city council in 2014, and is up for re-election this year. Currently serving as Mayor of Del Mar and actively involved in Short Term Rentals, Sea Level Rise, and other pending issues. |

He recently retired as Chairman and CEO of one of Australia’s largest commercial real estate companies. Prior to living in Sydney, he was CEO or President of several US based real estate companies and worked overseas with Morgan Stanley for several years advising on their real estate investments. His latest book, Saving Investa, how an ex-factory worker helped save one of Australia’s iconic companies, was published last year and his next book, Think like a Dog, how dogs teach us to be happy in life and successful at work, is due to be published later in 2018. The new book was co-authored by his rescue dog, Sadie, and himself. |
