Nepal Youth Foundation
Aug 09, 2018
Olga is a Sausalito resident who’s lived in the Bay area since the mid 1950s, when she was a new law school graduate. (brief bio: http://www.nepalyouthfoun Touched by the soul-crushing poverty she witnessed while in Nepal and the tremendous impact of a handful of personal scholarships she’d made, Olga Murray founded the Nepal Youth Foundation in 1990. Since then, “Olga Mom,” as she’s known to thousands of Nepali children, and NYF programs have transformed the lives of over 50,000 impoverished Nepali children by providing them what is every child’s birthright: vital healthcare, education and a safe environment. Olga spends half the year in Sausalito, California, raising funds for NYF, and the other six months in Nepal overseeing NYF projects. She’s received a medal from the King of Nepal to honor her work with Nepali children and the Dalai Lama gave her the Unsung Heroes of Compassion Award. Maybe most of all, Olga found her calling when she 60 years old, and is still amazing and active – and turned 93 this month! |

“The Wisdom and Humanity from Ancient Chinese Culture”
Oct 11, 2018
Many people have long been interested in China. This is true today more than ever before. The ethical values and principles derived from traditional Chinese culture helped create five-thousand years of splendor in Chinese history. With the current state of the world, understanding the true China has never been more important. "Wisdom and Humanity from Ancient Chinese Culture”, a new presentation is the continuation of the previous well-received program: The Renaissance of Traditional Chinese Culture, which was presented to and overwhelmingly welcomed by more than 250 organizations in Northern California. While the previous program bridged the ancient Chinese culture and modern American culture with humanity, the current 2nd presentation reveals the ancient philosophies deeply rooted in the Chinese culture since its very beginning, and explains how traditional Chinese culture built based upon these philosophies. This has been one of the outstanding programs that we have experienced.” ----Renan Dominguez, Rotary Club of South San Francisco |

Melissa will share her personal experience of learning to swim less than three years ago to becoming a world-record holding marathon swimmer. Hear how she trained for the 21 mile 15 hour 51 minute swim, the bizarre carbohydrates and hot chocolates she consumed on the journey, and the disappointment of her first attempt followed by the harrowing events of her success just two weeks later, which has led her to believe that anything is possible if you believe in your own ability to achieve it. Melissa translates her love for the ocean into her role as a sustainability commissioner for the City of Sausalito. |
