"Facts of Life"

John will share some secrets for living longer, healthier & happier based on his practical & scientific knowledge.

HEALTH & WEALTH have 5 letters in common, but you can't have both, unless you invest in yourself. So "Give your body what it needs, not what you want". "Eat junk food & your body becomes a junk yard".

Eat half of what you now eat & you wont die, but for sure you'll live longer. Do what you love since you never know when the ticker is going to stop.

The Marine Mammal Center

Since Dr. Vitor is unable to meet in the afternoon we will have a special presentation at our evening meeting. This highly accomplished veterinarian will only be at the Center from June through August to learn advanced skills that will enhance his research and veterinary care of marine mammals when he returns to Brazil. He and Mary Ann also want to thank our club for contributing $500 towards this endeavor under Past President Ricky's term.

The Marine Mammal Center is the largest marine mammal hospital in the world in terms of the number of patients it treats and the number of visiting professionals it trains. The Center frequently receives requests for technical help and training in wild marine mammal rescue and care. Our highly competitive International Veterinary-in-Residence Program annually brings up to three veterinarians from countries with developing marine science and conservation programs to our Center for a three-month period of time through The Marine Mammal Center (TMMC) Teaching Hospital.

This training program provides them with a range of training in rescue techniques, clinical veterinary care, animal husbandry, pathology, and research. In addition, the Center provides subsequent in-country training and assistance as resources allow. Some of the countries most in need of the technical assistance and training are located along nine critical marine conservation areas, which serve as crucial habitat for the vast majority of marine mammal species, from sea otters to blue whales. Focusing our training efforts in these areas helps advance future global strategies for marine mammal conservation.

The Marine Mammal Center has thus far hosted veterinarians from Chile, Colombia, Thailand, Taiwan, Mexico, South Korea and Brazil. Veterinarians who complete the IVIR program are then prepared to rescue stranded marine mammals, care for them during the rehabilitation process and provide training to staff and volunteers in their home countries.

Nepal Youth Foundation

Olga is a Sausalito resident who’s lived in the Bay area since the mid 1950s, when she was a new law school graduate.  (brief bio: http://www.nepalyouthfoundation.org/about-us/board-of-directors/).

Touched by the soul-crushing poverty she witnessed while in Nepal and the tremendous impact of a handful of personal scholarships she’d made, Olga Murray founded the Nepal Youth Foundation in 1990. Since then, “Olga Mom,” as she’s known to thousands of Nepali childrenand NYF programs have transformed the lives of over 50,000 impoverished Nepali children by providing them what is every child’s birthright: vital healthcare, education and a safe environment.

Olga spends half the year in Sausalito, California, raising funds for NYF, and the other six months in Nepal overseeing NYF projects. She’s received a medal from the King of Nepal to honor her work with Nepali children and the Dalai Lama gave her the Unsung Heroes of Compassion Award. Maybe most of all, Olga found her calling when she 60 years old, and is still amazing and active – and turned 93 this month!

“The Wisdom and Humanity from Ancient Chinese Culture”

Many people have long been interested in China.  This is true today more than ever before.  The ethical values and principles derived from traditional Chinese culture helped create five-thousand years of splendor in Chinese history.

With the current state of the world, understanding the true China has never been more important.

"Wisdom and Humanity from Ancient Chinese Culture”, a new presentation is the continuation of the previous well-received program: The Renaissance of Traditional Chinese Culture, which was presented to and overwhelmingly welcomed by more than 250 organizations in Northern California.

While the previous program bridged the ancient Chinese culture and modern American culture with humanity, the current 2nd presentation reveals the ancient philosophies deeply rooted in the Chinese culture since its very beginning, and explains how traditional Chinese culture built based upon these philosophies.

This has been one of the outstanding programs that we have experienced.”
