🎃 Kids Carnival on 10/25
Mark your calendars for our upcoming Kids Carnival! This Halloween celebration includes games, facepainting, informational booths including emergency preparedness and children's fingerprinting, and the ever-popular performance by Boswick the Clown. Interact students from Mills High and Taylor Middle School do most of the activities, but Rotarians are needed to support them. Afterwards, we will have a potluck lunch for Rotary and Interact members together. Wear your Rotary gear or a costume!
In order to register for any meetings or events, you can click on any of the events in this newsletter OR go to our website (you can type in millbrae rotary to get there) and click on ‘Calendar’ in the upper right. Once there, select the event you're interested in and it will open. From there, click on the Register button and you're all set! Right now, all meetings through October are enabled and ready for you to register yourself (and any prospective Rotarians, too!). Just a reminder that Green Hills Country Club requires us to confirm our numbers the Friday before our meeting, so you do need to think ahead.

The Millbrae Rotary Club has been an integral part of the Relay for Life of North Peninsula (benefitting the American Cancer Society) since it's inception. The event was chaired this year by club member Karen Bettucchi, and members Claire Beltrami, Alan Kirth and Paul Harrell were on the organizing committee. The Mills High School Interact Club was also part of the organizing committee, and played a major role by taking responsibility for the Luminaria (a very touching element is that after dark, paper bag luminarias are decorated in memory of or in honor of someone are lit up around the track). The Interact students also were responsible for the ceremonies throughout the event, which provide some of the most poignant and memorable moments of the day.
Our club, led by Claire, was responsible for the Registration booth.
The Millbrae Rotary Cancer Canceller team was the top team (led by dynamo Alan, who was the top individual fundraiser). Considering that the #4 team, “Crushing Children's Cancer - #GoldTogether” (led by Karen Bettucchi and her family), and the #5 team, “Anti-Cancer Crusaders” (led by Joe and Shari Teresi), and the Interact raised funds with their Luminaria, Millbrae Rotary along with Mills Interact were responsible for bringing in well over half of the funds raised this year! Thank you to all Rotarians who helped organize, who fundraised, who donated, and who helped out at the event!
The Millbrae Art and Wine Festival was held on September 5 and 6. Our club has a long history of supporting the event, which benefits the Millbrae Chamber of Commerce. Congrats to club members Jamie Monozon (Executive Director of the Millbrae Chamber of Commerce) and Albert Yam (Chair of the Art & Wine Festival) for a wonderful event, which always brings together our community. Many thanks to Dave Covarrubias (aka Spiderman) for all of his hard work coordinating our volunteers to staff our Token and Pouring booths. Thanks to all club members who worked shifts at the Art & Wine Festival! Here are a few photos from the day, starting with “Spiderman” Dave:

World Polio Day
Saturday, October 24, 2026 marks the annual global effort to raise awareness and support for the complete eradication of polio. This date commemorates the birthdate of Jonas Salk, who led the team that developed the first polio vaccine.
The PolioPlus program is Rotary International's signature initiative launched in 1985 to globalize and achieve the complete eradication of polio worldwide. If you haven't already done so, this is a great opportunity to make your donation to PolioPlus. Go to the Rotary International ‘Donate’ page, select the Polio Plus Fund, scroll down and select One time or Recurring donation, and select the amount. Take the time to sign in to My Rotary to ensure that your donation is properly credited to your member giving record. It is hoped that all club members will donate to the Polio Plus campaign this year.
Rotary's donations to PolioPlus are matched 2-to-1 by The Gates Foundation: for every $1 you donate, The Gates Foundation provides another $2, instantly tripling your donation.
