Conservation and Rotary in Uganda

Chris returns to our club to update us on his wildlife adventures and as a newly inducted Rotarian to the Kampala-Naalya club in Uganda. His passions have always been wildlife conservation, animals, travel, food, wine, cultures, traditions, and learning languages. Working with tigers and lions for many years in the U.S. This experience inspired Chris a deep desire to protect endangered species. Currently, he is working for Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary in Uganda and producing a documentry on the importance of community based eco-tourism, and conservation. |

Sharks

Jonathan Kathrein has had his share of terrifying experiences. When he was a 16-year-old student at St. Ignatius College Preparatory in San Francisco, Kathrein nearly died after being attacked by a great white shark at Stinson Beach. When he was 24, Kathrein emerged unharmed from an armed robbery while working at a coffee shop in Berkeley. As an inspirational speaker who heads a nonprofit organization, Future Leaders for Peace, Kathrein travels the world talking to children and adults about conflict resolution skills. He has taught in classrooms in the Bay Area, Hawaii, Great Britain and China. |

Financial Abuse Specialist Team (FAST)

The Financial Abuse Specialist Team (FAST) is a multidisciplinary team of public agency representatives and private professionals from the financial services industry. FAST was formed in 2005 to provide expert forensic assistance in the investigation of complex cases of suspected elder financial abuse. FAST also works to raise public awareness and provide community education through professional training programs. https://www.marinhhs.org/blog/marins-financial-abuse-specialist-team-fast Deborah Stephenson moved to Sausalito in January 1978 after graduating from New Mexico State University with a degree in Accounting and Management. She worked as an FDIC Bank Examiner until the mid-1980's and then started a 20+ year career in Business/Corporate Banking. In 1998 she moved to Mill Valley and retired from the banking industry in 2014. She travels to her apartment in NYC as time allows but remains active in Marin County most of her free time.
Chrisula Asimos, PhD, EA, CSA worked as a mental health clinician in psychiatric emergency for about 40 years and also had a second career working for the IRS in taxpayer\compliance. Currently volunteer as a commissioner representing San Rafael on the Marin County Commission on Aging, and am a co-volunteer coordinator with the San Rafael Villages. As a volunteer with the FAST team I am concerned about the financial exploitation and abuse of older adults and the numerous SCAMS that target this vulnerable and trusting group.

Ambassadors of Hope and Opportunity Project (AHO)

Since its inception, AHO is Marin’s only nonprofit focused on homeless young people and is leading the way in addressing the growing trend of youth homelessness in Marin County, Greater Bay Area and Sacramento, CA. A final testament to AHO’s unique program is the fact that youth alumni continue to reconnect with present day youth to share their successes, work on new projects and advocate for their peers within the community. |
