Rotary Club of Jackson
Rotagram – May 21, 2018
Brooks Buchanan, Rotary President, called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone.  The invocation was given, the pledge of allegiance and four-way test were recited. All guests and visiting Rotarians were acknowledged and welcomed.

Incoming President, Neddie Winters, was introduced and spoke of the necessity of committees to make the club run effectively.  He encouraged members to find a committee they could participate in and sign up (handouts describing the duties of the committees were distributed on the tables prior to the program and sign up was available during luncheon).  As a reminder, ‘Committee Day’ is July 9, 2018.
Julian Watson introduced our speaker, Coach Joe Moorhead, Head Football Coach Mississippi State University.

Coach Moorhead gave a brief history of his coaching career, which includes Offensive Coordinator (2016-2017) at Penn State University and Head Coach at Fordham University, his alma mater.  Coach Moorhead, a Pittsburg native, gave a comical recap of his transition to Mississippi which included the language, southern hospitality and food.  Coach Moorhead then discussed the 5 phases of development for the MSU football program:
1.     Strength and Conditioning Program:  goal is to make team bigger, stronger and faster; reinforcing a culture of metal and physical toughness.
2.    Spring Ball: develop identity, competition (improving every practice) and domination in various situations.
3.    Summer Workouts:  summer conditioning program that mimics the strength conditioning in phase 1.
4.    Fall Camp:  extension of Spring Ball developing offense and defense two deep.
5.    Season:  The “house we live in” mentality; culmination of previous 4 phases.

Goals for the MSU football program:
1.    Graduate 100% of players with a meaningful degree (life after football).
2.    Egg Bowl-bring the trophy back to MSU.
3.    Winning Record in both non-conference and SEC
4.    Positive impact on the city of Starkville and the State of Mississippi.
Coach Moorhead took questions and the meeting was adjourned by President Brooks Buchanan.  Following the program an alumni photo opportunity was given with Coach Moorhead.
