There was a Board meeting last week and here's what happened:
Approved $3,600 to ALMAS for shirts, food and other emergency needs of the kids. ALMAS is a student organization at Henry Sibley that is for Latino students (and friends of Latinos) to help promote and encourage graduation through acts of service. The food provided is necessary not just to entice kids to attend but it teaches them healthy choices and literally feeds some kids who otherwise would not eat. The shirts provide an identity and sense of belonging to a group that provides a positive influence in their lives. Emergency funds are there to provide for just that - an emergency.
