Passing the Gavel
Thanks so much to President Johanna for her energy and dedication to our Club - she was an awesome President this past year.  Here is a picture incoming President Dave awarding the coveted Presidential plaque:
Moonstruck 2017!
Moonstruck! - our biggest fundraiser of the year - will be held on Friday, Sept. 8.  Katie Lowe and William McNally have agreed to be the co-chairs!  The Moonstruck forms can be found on the website (I know those links work).  What do you need to do?
  • Get Teams
  • Get Sponsors - we have all levels of sponsorship available
  • Get silent and live auction items
  • Invite guests for dinner
All of the information is on the Moonstruck Entry Form.  Raffle tickets for beer and wine will be available soon.  We expect all Rotarians to participate, attend and sell at least $500 worth of sponsors, teams, raffle tickets.  If you would like to be part of a committee - contact Katie or William (their contact information is under the Active Member List on the website). It's super exciting and fun!
Board Meeting Action
We had a Board meeting last week and here's what we did:
  1. Accepted the resignation of Brian McDougall. He promises it's only temporary until he is back on his feet.Accepted the resignation of Jeff Hvass who took on too much responsibility at his Church.
  2. Announced that we will be helping getting Cottage Grove's Woodridge Park ready for the Inclusive Playground by getting our hands dirty on JULY 27 from 1-4 p.m.  This is a community service event so mark your calendars now!
  3. Continued the donation requests of VOSH, DARTS, the Boy Scouts and Fishing for Fun until after Moonstruck
  4. Approved a pledge of $1,000 to the Water for Honduras project because the mission trip is in July (will pay funds as soon as we have some Moonstruck proceeds)
And we thanked outgoing vocational chair Bernadette for her years of dedication to our Club and profusely thanked President Johanna for her reign as President. Job well done!
2017 Literacy Award Winner
The WSP/Mendota Heights Rotary Club 2017 Literacy Award Winner was presented with her award at last week's meeting.  She is Candy Whelan, a 2nd grade teacher at Mendota Elementary.  She has been teaching for 35 years and is well-known for her innovative ideas and creative solutions to get children interested in reading.  Her SNIB (Stick Nose In Book) program is particularly effective!  Congratulations to Candy - she is well-deserving of this recognition!
