President Don's Corner

Our Rotary program on the 21st featured District Governor Dayle Quigley who is a shining example of Rotary International’s moto, Service Above Self.  Our club’s own moto is Having Fun While Making a Difference.  We have multiple opportunities in October to put our moto into action.  Ten times a year our club serves meals for Loaves and Fishes with the next opportunity coming up on Thursday October 4th.  Prior to Covid we served 90 to 120 meals.  The need for meals continued to grow through Covid to where we were typically 200 to 220.  On August 30th, we served a staggering 322, 100 more meals than what we served on August 4th!  I want to send out a big thank you to all who help with our service projects and an invitation to those who have not joined this important mission in a while.  Your help is greatly needed and appreciated.

Our club also makes a financial difference in our community with contributions to various organizations.  Historically, MoonStruck was our largest fundraising activity, but as you know, we did not hold this event this fall.  Many of you gave generously to MoonStruck as a raffle ticket seller, hole sponsor, silver sponsor, gold sponsor, etc..  In lieu of MoonStruck, I invite you to continue your generosity with a contribution to our club’s foundation by making a check made payable to the West Saint Paul / Mendota Heights Rotary Foundation.  And, go sell those raffle tickets!
Wine & Beer Fundraiser happening now!
Wine & Beer raffle fundraiser going on now!  Raffle tickets are available from Bob Gullick or President Don at meetings now through October.  The tickets are $10 each.  Beer raffle winner gets a Wall of Beer (minimum of 30 six packs).  There are two winners for the wine raffle.  First Place:  30 bottles of wine.  Second Place:  10 bottles of wine.  Please bring wine and six packs of beer to any October meeting. The drawing will be on our November 9th meeting at the Copperfield restaurant.
Check received from Music Fest
Past President David Miller presented a $900 check to President Don McCall at last week's meeting.  The check was because some of our members and their families worked the Prior Lake Music Festival.   Thanks to those who worked and to David for picking up the check at the Prior Lake Rotary meeting the week before.  The money is going to Rotary International's Polio Plus program.
Volunteers needed
Anna Raway, our newest member, is seeking Rotarian volunteers at Southview Acres.  They need help with programs like cards, dice games, bingo calling, trivia, sorting mail, etc.  Please let Anna know if you're interested at 651-273440 or email ARaway@southviewacreas.com.
Marketing ideas
Board members Alan Ruvelson and Valarie Namen are exploring new ways to attract people to our club.  They are wondering if there is someone who has experience with NextDoor.  If it's you, please contact Alan or Valarie.
Last week's meeting

Our speaker had to cancel last week because of a MN Health Department audit.  So we packed 50 MatterBox meals.  Way to go group!
