Rotary Roses Info
It's ROSE TIME!!  Here's what you do now:

1. You pick up your roses
  • Pick up times are Tues. afternoon, Apr. 25 from 3-5 p.m. or Wed. morning, Apr. 26 from 6:30 a.m. - 8:00 a.m.
  • Location is at Arctic Glacier Ice, 1654 Marthaler Lane, West St. Paul. Click on the link here and it will take you to the event, which will give you a map.
2. You deliver your roses
3. You turn in your money to Scott at some point in the near future

You may have noticed that the one of the pick up times for roses coincides with our regular meeting time.  THAT'S BECAUSE THERE IS NO MEETING ON APRIL 26!! Go deliver your roses and accept all of the thank-yous and ooohs and aaaahs that your heart can handle. It's really cool.

Remember Scott's handy tips on maximizing shelf the life of the roses:  Fresh water daily with 2 squirts of bleach.

12th Annual Community Forum
The St. Paul Sunrise Rotary Club announces its 12th Annual Community Forum "Addressing Mental Health and Minnesota's Criminal Justice System: Can Minnesota Do Better?" to be held on April 20 from 7:15-9:15 a.m. at the Town and Country Club, Marshal Avenue at Otis Avenue, St. Paul.  Cost is $25, includes breakfast (I sure hope so!). Speakers are Sue Abderholden, Executive Director of National Alliance on Mental Illness, Dr. Eduardo Colon, Chief of Psychiatry at Hennepin County Medical Center and Tom Roy, Commissioner of the MN Department of Corrections.  This event is sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of St. Paul Sunrise, Minneapolis City of Lakes, St. Paul and Woodbury.
Rotary District Conference
The Annual Rotary District Conference, "Rotarians Changing the World" will be held April 27 - April 29 at the Holiday Inn East in St. Paul.  Here is the brochure for the event so you can see all the great action. Here is a link to the FB page.  https://www.facebook.com/events/1304457862943298/ On the right hand side you have the option to "invite friends." Please take a moment to invite friends from your Club and the District that you are "friends" with on Facebook. There will be inspirational keynote speakers, musical entertainment and dynamic and interactive breakout sessions.  It is an opportunity to connect with your Rotary family.  Attend as much or little of the conference as you can but with over 60 Clubs participating, it is a great chance to gather a great deal of knowledge about all things Rotary in one visit. Check out the District website at www.rotary5960 for all the details.    Anyone is invited to attend, but if you are on the current Board or next year's Board, you really SHOULD attend. Johanna, Dave, Katie and Bernadette are all signed up already - feel free to join them!
Literacy Award
The Rotary Club of West St. Paul/Mendota Heights is accepting nominations for our second annual literacy award, which recognizes a person, program or activity in West St. Paul or Mendota Heights that has made a significant contribution to a project that promotes basic literacy.  Examples of literacy projects include assisting others with reading or writing, or providing knowledge and skills that help others become a successful worker, citizen or parent. Nominations are due April 30, 2017.  A nomination form may be found here.  An article from the St. Paul Voice regarding last year's award winner can be found here. The award recipient will be selected by our club’s board of directors and the award will be presented in May.
