Last week, Jim Hunt talked to us about Parkinson's Disease.  Jim is a White Bear Lake Rotarian and was our district 5960 2016-2017 governor!  He is also a grant mentor and team lead.  Jim has Parkinson's and gave us some good information about it.  Parkinson's affects the body's central nervous system.  Common symptoms include tremors, balance, speech, lack of sleep, loss of taste and smell.  Multitasking is difficult.  No one knows the cause of Parkinson's.  15% heredity and 85% environmental including head injuries, chemicals like agent orange & ag chemicals!  How to treat:  medication, physical therapy, speech therapy, brain surgery, and exercise.  To combat the symptoms, Jim works with a company called Rock Steady Boxing (RSB).  This helps with balance by strengthening the core muscles.  For more information on RSB, check out https://rocksteadyboxing.org/.  Thanks Jim for the informative presentation.
