Update from ALMAS: Rob Hanson, coordinator for ALMAS, sent a letter sharing an update on the student-led group's recent work. During fall/winter 2013, the students testified at two city council meetings (one in West St. Paul and one in Mendota Heights) to oppose e-cigarettes. Students also sent letters to neighboring cities on the topic. The group will continue to work to prohibit e-cigarettes in communities in the area. ALMAS students last year served as child care providers for many district events, and will continue that work in the year ahead. Last, MNCOME continues it support of ALMAS and is partnering to promote healthier eating as a way to combat rapid increases in the Latino community of Type II Diabetes. ALMAS is grateful for the relationship and continued support of the group by Rotary.
