Loaves & Fishes
We will be serving at Loaves & Fishes on TUESDAY and THURSDAY this week (May 31 and June 2).  Be there at 3:00 to cook and 4:30 to serve. If some of you can stay to clean up, that deserves bonus points - I'll give you extra attendance credit!  See the events calendar for details.
Charter Night
Our Charter Event is next Sunday!  This is a fun social event for the whole Club, to celebrate our "birthday" (we are 26 years old!). For those who want a bite to eat, we will gather for brunch at The Liffey in St. Paul at 11:30.  Then, we are going to see Air Play at the Ordway at 1:30.  AND We will have the opportunity for a "meet and greet" with the actors after the show!  If you have questions, contact Rayna (she's in charge).  Details can be found in the Events Calendar.
Inclusive Playground District Grant
Our Board decided to submit another district matching grant application - this time for the Cottage Grove Inclusive Playground.  It is a playground intended to benefit children (and adults) of all ages, abilities and mobilities.  There will be something for everyone!  Our grant application is for the purchase of two zip lines which will come with chairs so that anyone can enjoy them, even if they can't stand up or can't hold a handle.  Here is a picture of what our funds would buy for the playground:

We will be contacting other Rotary Clubs to help contribute so that we can reach the goal of raising $21,000 for the purchase of these special and awesome zip lines.  If you are a member of another Rotary Club and are interesting in donating $500 (or more!) toward our grant application, please contact Kori Land at kland@levander.com.

Heartline Update
Heartline offered the following significant impact that the generator, inverter and batteries that our Club helped purchase for the Maternity Center in Haiti has had on their operations:
  • Since this equipment has been in use, Heartline has had a 75% decrease in diesel costs and significantly more consistent electricity.  Prior to the new generator, inverter and batteries that Rotary provided, the Maternity Center had about 1 hour of electricity after the city cut off the electricity, which happens for long periods of time every day.  The Maternity Center can now go for 12-15 hours with power when the city electricity is off!  It has positively impacted not only the financial bottom line but also dramatically improved the quality of care, especially when so many babies are born at night when the city power is off.
