Inclusive Playground Check
We are fully funded for our Inclusive Playground District Grant and have received official District approval of our application.  The District will present us with our $7,459 check at our meeting THIS WEEK at our regular meeting and that same night we will present the BIG CHECK to the Cottage Grove City Council in the amount of $21,000 to purchase 2 zip lines for the inclusive playground.  Everyone is welcome to attend the presentation at the Cottage Grove City Council meeting at 7:00 p.m. Please? Please come with me?   I would appreciate the company!  Otherwise I'm going to be REALLY lonely up there with the giant check all by myself. Click here for more details.
Rotary District Conference
The Annual Rotary District Conference, "Rotarians Changing the World" will be held April 27 - April 29 at the Holiday Inn East in St. Paul.  Here is the brochure for the event so you can see all the great action. Here is a link to the FB page.  https://www.facebook.com/events/1304457862943298/ On the right hand side you have the option to "invite friends." Please take a moment to invite friends from your Club and the District that you are "friends" with on Facebook. There will be inspirational keynote speakers, musical entertainment and dynamic and interactive breakout sessions.  It is an opportunity to connect with your Rotary family.  Attend as much or little of the conference as you can but with over 60 Clubs participating, it is a great chance to gather a great deal of knowledge about all things Rotary in one visit. Check out the District website at www.rotary5960 for all the details.    Anyone is invited to attend, but if you are on the current Board or next year's Board, you really SHOULD attend. Johanna, Dave, Katie and Bernadette are all signed up already - feel free to join them!
Literacy Award
The Rotary Club of West St. Paul/Mendota Heights is accepting nominations for our second annual literacy award, which recognizes a person, program or activity in West St. Paul or Mendota Heights that has made a significant contribution to a project that promotes basic literacy.  Examples of literacy projects include assisting others with reading or writing, or providing knowledge and skills that help others become a successful worker, citizen or parent. Nominations are due April 30, 2017.  A nomination form may be found here.  An article from the St. Paul Voice regarding last year's award winner can be found here. The award recipient will be selected by our club’s board of directors and the award will be presented in May.

President's Message
Start selling roses!  Our second biggest fund raiser of the year has begun and we expect all Rotarians to sell 22 dozen roses. Delivery day is April 26 (Administrative Assistant's Day).  Order forms can be found here.  We do not have a regular Club meeting that day so that you can go to Arctic Glacier Ice (on Marthaler Lane in WSP) and pick up your roses.  Then you deliver your roses and watch the happy smiling reaction you get with each delivery!  Scott Burger is in charge, so feel free to get more details and information on it from him.
