Translation, You too Brutus?
Some quick context. These words as attributed spoken by Julius Caesar as he was killed by his courtesans, in the dramatic climax of Shakespeare’s play. The death of Caesar, mid March 44 BC, on the Roman calendar, was a down turning point for the Roman Empire.
Okay, Okay, I am getting to it. The mid March date in the Roman calendar was known as the “Ides of March”. This date was marked by religious observances and was notable as the date to settle all outstanding debts. I am assured by our Treasurer, Robert, that we (Rotary Club) are current. Thanks Bob.
Mid March - 21 st century Minnesota, has other notable significance.
As we are now in “Meteorological Spring”. You would not think this with daily temps running 20 degrees below average, however increased daylight and warmer temps are coming. This seasonal change in the weather is a harbinger for “Spring Fever”, a condition or mood generally characterized by restlessness and excitement.
Speaking of excitement- the NCAA basketball tournament is about to get underway bringing on March Madness. As the field of 64 teams vying to be the national champion is being set, those of us who have “our” team are excited about the prospect of “our” team getting hot and making a deep run at the championship. Last I checked, the Nebraska cornhuskers had a 10,000 to 1 chance to win the championship. My Purdue Boilermakers @ 20 to 1.
Enjoy March anyway you choose- getting ready to plant flowers & a garden, taking in the sunsets or wearing your school’s colors.
