President’s Corner

As many of you know, our President Val left for Florida at the end of July to tend to her dad was having serious heart surgery and other procedures. With her dad’s health problems continuing to need Val’s assistance and now her brother facing potential serious health problems, Val has decided that it is in everyone’s best interest if she resigned as our president so she can focus on the pressing needs of her dad and brother. We all keep Val and her family in our hearts and prayers and support Val’s decision and thank her for her service to our club.

So, what is next for club leadership? Two past presidents, David Miller and Don McCall, have agreed to serve out the remainder of the Rotary year as co-presidents; should they be elected by the club membership. If anyone else desires the serve as president, they should contact our club Secretary, Dave Hanson, prior to Monday September 18^th. Our board is scheduled to meet on September 19^th and will ratify a process and set a date as soon as possible for our club membership to elect a successor(s) to fill the vacancy.

Beer and Wine Raffle in full swing

Get your raffle tickets to sell from Bob Gullick. Please consider selling 20 beer and wine raffle tickets. Proceeds will go the community and the world on behalf of our club.

New this year: Beer has two winners. 25 grand prize 6-packs; 5 second prize 6-packs. Wine is grand prize 25 bottles; 5 bottles second prize.

Please consider bringing wine and a 6-pack to meetings to give to Bob. Raffle tickets sell for $10.00 each.

Rotary Foundation Giving

From Rotarian Alan Ruvelson: Rotary is a non-political, non-religious combination of people who want to make the world a better place, even a small part of it. To achieve their goal, individual Rotarians pay for their association and donate their resources. Donations generally take the form of skills, expertise and resources of time and money. Monetary donations can be direct and current, or paid to the Rotary International Foundation (“RIF”) (or to local non-profits, such as the West St. Paul-Mendota Heights Rotary Foundation). Donations to the West St. Paul-Mendota Heights Rotary Foundation are spent on charities supported by the club. Donations to RIF are used to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace by improving health, providing quality education, health, providing quality education, improving the environment, and alleviating poverty. August 2023 board meeting highlights

Here are some highlights from our August Board Meeting:

1 - Loaves and Fishes is coming up on August 29th (the 5th Tuesday of the month)

2 - For membership recruitment, we are reaching out to other groups like Toastmasters

3 - Jennifer Giovinazzo proposing we develop a plan to generate goals around membership recruitment. F toor example, remind members to like our Facebook page.

4 - New Facebook page will be produced.

5 - Proposal from Alan Ruvelson to use our club's Paul Harris dollars to present to members of our community and to help members achieve a Paul Harris Fellowship.

6 - Reminder from Bob Gullick that beer and wine raffle tickets are available from him for us to sell.

7 - Deferring Rose Sale until next year.

8 - David Miller will draft a fundraising goal for the next board meeting. Look for a brain storming meeting in the future on fundraising for our club.

9 - Reminder to award Rose Lethert a Paul Harris Fellowship in husband's Mike memory.

Something new to meetings

The board would like to have a local businesses present a 3 minute introduction to their company at each meeting.

Please let Dave Hanson know if you get someone and he'll add to the schedule.

One 3 minute presentation at each meeting would be the goal.

Fundraising Ideas

The board is looking for creative fundraising ideas and a team to coordinate activities. Maybe we'll see a pickleball tournament next summer? Please contact any board member if you have some ideas. We meet at 7:30 Wednesday mornings at Saint Anne’s Episcopal Church located at 2035 Charlton Road, Sunfish Lake, MN 55118. Join us for a continental breakfast with good coffee followed by an engaging program.
