Board meeting recap
We had a Board meeting last week and here's what we did:
  1. Approved the purchase of our own Club cards
  2. Combined our Nov/Dec Board meetings into one meeting to be held on Dec. 6
  3. Began looking at options for a Club Charter Event (our birthday party)
  4. Voted to approve a donation to the Y for $1,500 to be used toward their Career Pathways program to give youth employment opportunities at the Y
  5. Voted to approve ALMAS' request for $3,550 to fund their Club shirts and food program
  6. Talked about having a regular meeting off-site at an off-time.  We will solicit feedback from the Club on what this would look like so be thinking about that discussion!

Great Halloween Get Together
CANDY!  Every Halloween on Oct. 31 from 5-7 p.m., the City of South St. Paul closes off Marie Avenue from 3rd Ave. to 7th Ave. and asks clubs, organizations, local businesses to hand out candy to about 1,000 trick-or-treaters in a nice, safe, enclosed and quick environment!  For many years, we have been setting up shop at the entrance - corner of Marie and 7th Ave. and handing out candy! There are 2 ways you can help:

1. You can help hand out candy! It's only for 2 hours and you can be home in time to take care of your OWN trick-or-treaters!  OR
2. You can bring candy to the meeting THIS WEEK and we will make sure it is appropriately distributed. (or give me $$ and I'll buy the candy)

I NEED MORE CANDY!  Please bring in your candy to the meeting on Wed. (unopened, if possible, otherwise I cannot guarantee the bag will survive with all of its contents intact until Halloween) I used to make the boys come and help hand out candy on Halloween, which they found quite confusing, since they thought they should be on the receiving end.  (Ben is on the left and Ted is on the right) I found this picture in the archives:
Ethics Day - Nov. 16
We will be hosting our annual Ethics Day event on Wed., Nov. 16 at Thompson Park in West St. Paul for 60 Henry Sibley high school Juniors and Seniors.  The goal is to take student leaders and teach them to think about the every-day ethical decisions that they encounter so that when they are faced with a tough decision in real life, they will make the right decisions.  If you would like to help out for the day or half-day or just to buy food, see or contact Katie Lowe. If you would like to facilitate a table of kids, see Katie. If you would like to sponsor a table ($100), see Katie.   We will not have a regular Rotary meeting that day so that anyone can participate if they are able to do so.  Here is a picture from last year's group.
