Here's what's coming up THIS WEEK...
  • ON WED - Oct. 28 - New Member Orientation from 4:30 - 7:00ish.  If you have not been oriented into our Club or need to be re-oriented, or are wondering if you'll ever be shown the secret handshake, we offer appetizers, intriguing conversation and a great opportunity to get to know each other at Connie Roehrich's home. We disguise it as a Rotary 101 class, but it's really just a time for us to talk in more than 15-minute increments.  It is for new and old members alike - in fact, the whole Club is welcome to attend! Come and drop in for a little bit or stay for the whole time.  Click here for details and directions to Connie's house.
  • ON SAT. - Oct. 31 from noon - 1 - Ghost Tour at the MIA.  Colleen Watson (Dr. Watson) is offering a free guided tour of all the ghost hangouts at the MIA. Click here for more information.  Be there by 11:45.
  • ALSO ON SAT - Oct. 31 from 5-7 p.m. - The Great Halloween Get Together.  We hand out candy to 1,000 trick-or-treaters on Marie Avenue between 5th and 7th in SSP.  I usually try to get the spot right by the free hotdogs at the corner of 7th/Marie.  Please bring a bag of candy to our regular meeting so that we don't run out before every cute little costumed monster gets his/her treat.

Thanks to those who helped with the Adopt A Highway last weekend!

We had a Board meeting this week and here's what we did:

  • Voted to allocate $1,500 in our budget toward Neighbors Inc. Adopt-A-Family
  • Voted to approve $3,000 to ALMAS to support its efforts toward increasing high school graduation rates for Latino students. Johanna volunteered to be the group's liaison between our Club and theirs to facilitate and coordinate our community service activities.
  • AFTER our Board meeting, later in the week, we also voted to approve the new member application of JON SAMPSON!!  It was unanimously approved!  Yeah Jon!  He is a physical therapist and is already volunteering for our activities.
  • AFTER our Board meeting, we learned that our Heartline project in Haiti is fully funded!!  Here are the contributions we received from other Clubs SO FAR - we are expecting more to come, which will offset the $10,000 we committed from our own funds...
    • SSP            $1,750
    • Lakeville     $5,000
    • Roseville        $500
    • Shrewsbury $3,100
    • Prior Lake    $2,000
    • District Grant = $9,000
We look forward to seeing the construction project that will help this much-needed maternity center update its facilities.    Thanks to Bridget for her hard work in seeing this District Grant through to the end!
