Joe Scheimer
Rotary Foundation

Joe served for 24 years in the United States Air Force and retired as a Colonel.  He has 1,005 combat hours directing air strikes in the Vietnam War and was a member of the Ravens, a select group of pilots who flew in the CIA’s Secret in Laos.  After the Air Force, he worked as an Investment Advisor for 20 years with LPL Financial, and flew the Intel Shuttle for several years.

He joined Rotary in 1996 and was president of the Rotary Club of Rancho Cordova in 2012-13.  He is now a member of the Rotary Club of Fair Oaks.  Joe led a Group Study Exchange Team to Colombia in 2010.  He served for four years as Assistant Governor and in many positions in the District Foundation Committee, and for the last two years as the Rotary Foundation Committee Chair.

Joe’s Rotary moments happened in 2009-12, during his three wheelchair distributions to Lima, Peru; San Jose, Costa Rica; and Iquitos, Peru, when he observed the joy the recipients displayed as they experienced freedom and mobility for the first time; also the gratitude of a sobbing grandmother as she thanked him for giving her granddaughter the means to continue her education, as she was getting too big to be carried to school.

Joe is married to Marie, a retired public elementary school teacher.  They have two successful daughters, and two beautiful granddaughters.  He enjoys fishing, cycling, reading history and autobiographies, Corvettes and traveling.
