Greeter this week: Frank Yakimchuk
A chance discussion with a co-worker this week gave me an opportunity to mention my
Involvement in Rotary by way of the "side door". A supervisor asked me to review a "memo" which he had authored for our staff, after our consultation, a discussion developed regarding travel and others interests. I told him that my wife, Tammy and I had taken a trip to Bangkok a few years ago for the RI International Convention. He replied that he too had spend time in the same area of Thailand on business in the recent past.
Sometimes when the opportunity arises take the time to speak to others about your interests, use the soft sale approach and work to plant the seed of the "Rotary Theme", Service Above Self. Knowing the opportunities that Rotary gives to youth, young adults and others makes for good conversation and a subtle means to bring a fresh face on board to our Club, in my case the E Club of Canada One.
Please stay for our weekly E-club meeting, this can be your "make up" for your own E-club or more likely a " Terra Club" welcome all. To help us in our work, feel free to donate a few "bucks" to the Rotary Cause, this effort will generate more success.

Inspirational Moment
“In the end, the number of prayers we say may contribute to our happiness, but the number of prayers we answer may be of even greater importance.”

Rotary E-club at a glance
(Submitted by Bruce Kleeberger)
The membership committee, after consultation with the e-club leadership, created a document designed to be an introduction to the e-club to new members or potential new members. It is part of the New Member Program which has been established by the committee under the leadership of Bruce.

The contents of the program can be accessed by any member from the homepage by clicking on: Members/New Member Links. http://portal.clubrunner.ca/8529/SitePage/new-member-links
A link to the document (which is also under documents on the website) in the weekly meeting could also be used to promote the New Member Program and the e-club in general.

The New Member Program was designed as a tool to ensure all new members become familiar with the e-club in hopes that they will become enthusiastic and engaged members.

Prime Minister Steven Harper was presented with the prestigious Rotary Polio Champion award by RI President Elect Ravi Ravindran and Past RI President Wilf Wilkinson last week during the Rotary Zones 24 & 32 Institute in Toronto. PM Harper thanked Rotary for the commitment and passion to eradicate polio. He stressed that the Government of Canada will remain an active partner with Rotary until “we pass the goal line” and eliminate polio.

Food for Thought

WHAT IF having a sense of purpose may add years to your life, regardless of what the purpose is?
RESEARCH SAYS: Living “on purpose” enriches your life. Not only does having a purpose contribute to healthy aging, but it may also postpone early death. This is true regardless of age or whether or not you have retired from work. Researchers believe this is because purposeful people look after their health better and are physically fitter. Researcher Dr. Hill states, “Our findings point to the fact that finding a direction for life, and setting overarching goals for what you want to achieve can help you actually live longer, regardless of when you find your purpose."
TRY THIS: The universal purpose of life is to become our best by doing our best. What does it mean to become your best? Write it down and put it someone where you can see it often. Let it drive you when you make important decisions.
