Greeter this week: Frank Yakimchuk

This is the Halifax Police Class of 1979 at their 20 year Service Ceremony. I am in the top row left hand side in the suit and beard working as a Detective Constable in the Major Crime Unit.
I started my Rotary Journey in 1994 while working as a Police Instructor in both Fitness and Self Defence at the Atlantic Police Academy located at Selmon Park, a decommissioned Air Force Base just outside Summerside in PEI. Ironically both my Aunt Elizabeth and her future husband were stationed there decades prior.
Shortly after arriving at my new home in the middle of winter by car ferry, the APA Director summons me to his office, he said " I am a member of the local Rotary Club but you are going to take my place". In those days, they were more likely to fill one vacant Classification with someone of the same profession. As luck would have it my future wife, Tammy Waugh was one of the first 3 women in Rotary at the Rotary Club of Summerside and she became my unofficial mentor. Tammy was the Food and Beverage Manager for the Selmon Park Corporation and we became fast friends because I lived on site and ate some meals at the cafeteria with the Police Cadets and APA Staff.
I was put to work immediately as the Sgt at Arms and learnt the basics of the position on the job. The Rotary Club of Summerside had a deep respect for the Police Service and my time spend there was stress free and lacking in major conflicts. The one challenge was moving the Meeting from a Lunch time to a "Sunrise" time.
Rotary works the best when it's Members leave their egos at the door or in their computer room,  accept positive change and in the words of DG Laura, " stop doing things the same as you have always done".

Inspirational Moment

High school senior creates group 'We Dine Together' so no student has to eat alone
One student at Boca Raton Community High School has created a new student group called "We Dine Together" so that no student has to eat alone at lunch.
Denis Estimon immigrated to the U.S. from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, when he was in the first grade.
"There was a language barrier ... and my mom was always working and my father was still in Haiti at the time so I wasn't able to talk to anybody," Estimon told ABC News. "I felt isolated. I felt lonely. And so I still remember how I felt not being able to speak to fellow students."

Comments from our Guests and Members
Members and guest attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring and entertaining weekly meetings.
Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you send us your comments please?

- the Charles Schulz Philosophy was awesome.
- thank you to Delwen Stander for keeping things in perspective and providing balance.
- that proposal was a 'wash out'.
The main thing I got out of the Future of Rotary is that we must 'remain relevant'.
- time lapse footage of earth was fantastic.
- excellent re-cap of the battle of Vimy Ridge.

Andy Adams, RC of Campbell River, D-5020

Attended Vimy Meeting. BBC summary of the battle was amazing.
Anre McIntosh, Rotary E-Club of Canada One, D-5370

Starting with the article on Vimy Ridge encounter by Canadian forces in WW 1 celebrating its 100th anniversary followed by skeptical comments on Suzuki's pieces, Charles Schulz's peanut questions and statements, film strips on little humor", Rotary Minute and the inspirational piece, made the  experience very interesting.
K.Prasad Menon, RC of Simsbury-Granby, D-7890, USA

I am still German (will become Canadian on 25th of April 2017); my grandmas and mom told me stories of the 1st and 2nd World War that no one can imagine. My maternal grandma's brothers (3) died during WW1, my paternal grandma's husband became a POW in the US during WW2; my dad was a POW in Siberia from 1945 to 1950. War hurts, leaves scars forever, and doesn't help world peace at all!

Husband wrote a romantic message from his phone to his wife on his business trip and missed an "e" in the last word.
Now he is seeking police protection to enter his own house.
He wrote:

"Hi darling I'm experiencing the best time of my life and I wish you were her!!"
