We welcome the World Wide Web to the Rotary E-Club of Canada One weekly meeting.

Our own President Lynne's initiative to celebrate Canada 150 during her year 17/18 offered $150 to members to complete their own project, anywhere in the world.
Projects were completed in British Columbia, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, the United Kingdom, El Salvador, Panama and Mexico.
Literacy and conflict resolution and tree planting were the main focus of the work of the member initiated projects to support communities, the environment and peace in the world.

Congratulations to all!

So sad that we have polluted the beaches and our oceans so much!!  If each individual used less plastic and looked after disposal of what they did use, we would be responsible stewards of our earth!

Life Lessons from 100 year Olds
All the people that were interviewed (and over the age of 100), were happy, lived simply and had a great memory! One man even used an Ipad. His motto was "Keep right on till the end of the road".

Christine Vachon, RC of Westlock, Alberta, D-5370

I really enjoyed the video on Global warming and Plankton.  My cousin's grandfather was a PhD Marine Biologist who focused his research on plankton and I used to really enjoy listening to his stories about this small but significant creature. In fact, there are 4 species of plankton named after him.  This video really reminded me of him.  Unfortunately he passed away a few years ago.
JP Kamel, Rotary E-Club of Canada One, D-5370

I was reminded of the importance of paying attention to the little things both for the value they bring and what they can teach us.

Remembering Albert Sabin and the vaccine that changed the world
Medicine and public health lost a luminary 25 years ago this week with the death of Dr. Albert Sabin. During his life, Sabin became a household name, famous the world over for his development of the oral polio vaccine. He was also a role model for many clinicians and researchers because he refused to patent the vaccine.

"Don lives next to where I spent 20 years in Toronto and I've seen him a number of times live.  At a concert at the old Bathurst St. Church, he introduced this song and bemoaned the plight of instrumental musicians who then have to put a name on what they've created.  He wrote this and then went out for a walk around the neighbourhood and caught this name in the window of a local restaurant and submitted it.  He then introduced the song as "Fish Soup".... oops.... Don is a Mi'kmaq from Ontario and one of the best finger pickers in the world.  He's even been in Whitehorse..."
