Greeter this week: Chris Langley

I was touched by Lynne Ternosky's donation to Rotary in my name for the playing of "The Streets of London", and I thank her for her kind comment. Although I am no longer an active member of a Rotary Club, all the things I joined Rotary for in 1990 are still out there, perhaps in larger need of individual service and action than ever before. All communities, whether big cities like London, or small settlements  in the mountains or prairie, have their serious challenges for some folk. I continue with my own individual activity in my community, thinking globally but acting locally. I am but one voice, one pair of hands and one determined mind, but this is all it takes to start a revolution! I challenge you to look outside your own door, in your own community, and find a need and act on it, NOW. My own newest  activities  are assisting as a Civilian Instructor in a Squadron of 160+ Royal Canadian Air Cadets, kids 12-18, learning self discipline and many useful skills...... and...... I picked up a litter-picker  for $20 and when I go walking with my dog I take the picker and a bucket and pick up whatever I find in the parks or along the streets, plastic and paper debris, cigarette butts and packets, condoms, syringes, homeless people's scattered trash, burned out fireworks....and deposit them in a safe receptacle. What a difference that small act makes. We need $20 million a year right now in Vancouver to do something to shelter the homeless and assist those who insist on "living out". I cannot fix that but maybe you can?

Great inspirational moment with local people going one on one with the police trying to find some common ground and understand each other.
David Werrett, Rotary E-Club of Canada One, D-5370

Two stories really stood out in this meeting. Kate Roff's telling of the help she received as a Rotary exchange student while in Bangkok. And the insightful presentation by Margaret Heffernan regarding the need to question something even if it may be in conflict to the status quo.
Lou Spizzirri, Rotary E-Club of Canada One, D-5370

I admire the courage and passion shown by this week's greeter in leaving her teaching position and
dedicating her time and energy to improving the opportunities for the children of Guatemala.  She truly demonstrates Rotary's motto of service above self.

Robert Boyden, RC of Canmore, Alberta, D-5360

Another excellent meeting! Yes again, Rotary's Youth Exchange Program proves how invaluable it is.. Kate Roff's blog and what she developed proves it.
Also, Margaret Heffernan's message "Dare to Disagree" is something, I believe, we ALL should hear -- the terms constructive conflict and moral courage will remain part of my vocabulary now.

Sharon Blaker, Rotary E-Club of Canada One, D-5370
