Greeter this week: James (Jim) Ferguson

Our E-Club reached a milestone this year.
On February 23 (which is of course, Rotary's anniversary date), 2018, our E-Club turned 5 years old.
When we chartered in 2013, we really didn't know the other members very well.
The only people that I knew, were my friends Elly and Ramiro Contreras, as we were all former members of either the Rotary Club of Stony Plain or the Rotary Club of Spruce Grove, Alberta, which are very close together geographically.
For the first few years of our E-Club, we had a fair bit of sorting out to do, as to how do we actually do a Community Services Project, when we had members living in all areas of Canada, and in the USA?
Of course, we donated funds to projects that members championed, but finally we were able to secure the Beaufort Sea in Canada's High Arctic, for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, making it our first true Canadian E-Club community project.
Recently, we've also coordinated the building of a water pipeline project in Subirana, Honduras, an approximately $110,000.00 USD project in partnership with other Rotary Clubs, and Rotary International via a Global Grant.
It's taken 5 years, but we're getting a great core group of Rotarians in our E-Club that understand the advantages (and disadvantages!) of belonging to an internet Rotary Club.
That's why I thought this Greeter Message picture was appropriate.
Together, pulling and working as a team, in whatever type of club we belong to, Rotarians can accomplish miracles and make a really positive difference in our world.

Inspirational Moment

Canadiana

Victoria Day (French: FĂȘte de la Reine, or "Celebration of the Queen") is a federal Canadian public holiday celebrated on the last Monday preceding May 25, in honour of Queen Victoria's birthday. As such, it is the Monday between the 18th to the 24th inclusive, and thus is always the penultimate Monday of May. The date is simultaneously that on which the current Canadian sovereign's official birthday is recognized.[1] It is sometimes informally considered the beginning of the summer season in Canada.

The Rotary Minute is another example of the need for doing things with your hands and how satisfying that is.
Peter Denooy, Rotary E-Club of Canada One, D-5370

It's always fascinating to hear about the human condition. Knowing more about mental health/wellness helps take away the stigma and misconceptions. The more we understand and learn about things the more acceptable of them we become - it's harder to be critical and judgmental of things once one we are more familiar with them. Very interesting program (I remember having similar discussions with my father - who also was a Rotarian and practiced as a Psychiatrist); really cool!
John Wojcicki, RC of Edmonton, Alberta, D-5370

Your speaker program provided a very interesting insight to one of the many functions of our brains that are just beginning to be understood or discovered. Like our oceans having more unexplored area than the earth's land mass, there is more to be learned about our brain than we know about all of the other parts or our bodies. A very thought provoking presentation.
Robert Boyden, RC of Canmore, Alberta, D-5360
