Greeter this week: Elly Contreras
One of the many reasons I joined Rotary is to serve and do "hands on" work in my community. After 10 years with Project Amigo in Mexico, I discovered how important and rewarding these opportunities are for us who wish to serve.
You may have heard my presentation about the Children of Sanchez and the extreme poverty families in the mountains of Colima deal with, and the limited access to adequate education. The end of October we will depart for Mexico again. We will spend much of our time doing hands on work and meeting students such as Laura. Seeing them work so hard for a better future, and knowing that our support will help them achieve their goals is very rewarding.
We welcome anyone wanting to serve to come and join us for a week. It will change your life.
Contact me if you like to learn more. I hope to see you there. <miselly2@telusplanet.net>

Canada Geese
Few sights evoke as much attention, and awe, as that of a large flock of Canadian geese winging their way in a V-formation to the north or south. They speak of the changing of seasons and of the value of teamwork.
What many don't know is that when a goose becomes ill or wounded, it never falls from formation alone. Two other geese also drop out of formation and follow the ailing goose to the ground. One of them is usually the mate of the wounded bird, since geese mate for life and are extremely loyal to their mates. Once on the ground, the healthy birds help protect him and care for him as much as possible, even to the point of throwing themselves between the weakened bird and possible predators. They stay with him until he is either able to fly again, or dies. Then, and only then, do they launch out. In most cases, they wait for another group of geese to fly overhead and they join them, adding to the safety and efficiency of their numbers.

Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you send us your comments please?
Excellent meeting. I particularly enjoyed our club member insights. Vicki's greeter message captures so very well how it only takes one person inspired to make a huge difference. Undine brings to us such sensitivity to the difference we can make with through our children and learning other cultures. The video on men's support group is something so overlooked in our society too. People making a difference in so many ways! Thank you to all who contributed.

Enjoyed the diversity of the content. Informative and fresh.
Raymond Merhej, RC of Edmonton Strathcona, D-5370
I found the video on reuniting fathers with their children and thereby, hopefully, ending the cycle of single parent families very interesting. Enjoyed the meeting.
Robert Boyden, RC of Canmore, Alberta, D-5360
Wonderful story by Vicki about giving a presentation to a Rotary club which results in a schoolboy being motivated to collect surplus school supplies to send to Guatemala.
David Werrett, Rotary E-Club of Canada One, D-5370
Your attendance could earn you Paul Harris Points
The Rotary E-club of Canada One is excited to announce that all of our attending guests who make a donation to our club in lieu of a meal, fines or happy bucks, will have the opportunity to have their name entered in a quarterly draw in support of the Rotary Foundation.
