Greetings to you and welcome to Rotary E-Club of Canada One!

During the holidays, I volunteered with the Multicultural Association of Stratford and welcome new comers from Africa to our community in Ontario. This begins a long journey in adapting and learning how to survive independently in Canada.
The Rotary E- Club of Canada One is also responding to the challenges of poverty, basic education, lack of employment and job skill training in El Salvador, Central America under the Pathways to Literacy Program in three communities, as well as Imagination Library preschool literacy in Canada in eight of our Arctic Communities of Northwest Territories. Please enable us in these projects and join us as a member and/ or with any small donation. Together in 2015 we can “Light up the World with Rotary!”

I am honoured to be a member of the Rotary E-Club of Canada One and hope you enjoy this meeting with us.

Comments from our Guests and Members
Members and guest attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring and entertaining weekly meetings.
Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you send us your comments please?

“Excellent online meeting, artist Jack Forestier is amazing and at such a young age, he will go far with his talent. Also, Speaker Fred Swaniker gave some real insight some issues with Africa; Love Ted Talks”.
Kevin Joseph, RC Kempenfelt-Barrie - D7010

“The Rotary Foundation in Action video was very informative. A very good introduction/refresher to one of our main purposes in Rotary.  It is something I would like to be able to play when we promote ourselves to our community.
Likewise the two videos on Polio are equally as good.  Something I plan on showing to my children. It is important for them to know how it affected us in North America and how it is still affecting children on "the other side" of the world.  As well as how our communities must continue to work together, internationally and nationally, to support our global villages.”

Philip Laitar, RC Woodstock - D7080

“Really enjoyed Jean Pierre Kamel's greeting with his daughter from Atlantic Ocean. What an example he sets for us all.”
Lynne Ternosky, R Ec-lub Canada One

“As a lawyer who was called to the Bar of Ontario 30 years ago next month, it was refreshing to hear a young, adventurous lawyer describe how she is actively working to enhance the rule of law.  Her message respecting the benefit we all share by actively promoting and supporting the rule of law in our daily personal and business lives resonated with me.  Thank you for selecting her October 2014 TED talk for this week’s program.  I rarely watch TED talks and would not have seen her presentation otherwise.”
Sarah Jacob, RC Cobourg - D7070

New Members Corner
Rotary in Cuba
The first Rotary club to be organized outside an English-speaking country was established in Havana, Cuba, 29 April 1916, with 22 charter members. The club was admitted to Rotary on 1 June 1916.

During 1923, the Rotary Club of Havana celebrated its seventh anniversary, in what became a very busy year. The club sponsored a carnival attended by more than 1,500 children, won a prohibition against bullfighting in Cuba, worked to get the city’s water sanitized and properly purified, and obtained pavement repairs in certain areas.

By the time the RI Convention was held in Havana, 9-14 June 1940, 42 of the 48 clubs that had been chartered in Cuba were still active. Another 20 clubs would be chartered thereafter, ending with the Rotary Club of San Cristobal, on 16 October 1957.
All clubs in Cuba were terminated by 31 January 1979.
