Greeter this week: Doug Dyer

E-Club of Canada One history was made when members Vicki Horsfield and Doug Dyer met for the first time in Granada, Nicaragua. In fact it was those "hey, I know that person" moments, a somewhat chance meeting in the very busy Plaza Central.
Over the next few days, Vicki, Doug and his wife Johanne were able to have several wonderful visits and deepen a Rotary friendship that had been fostered within our e club. We all have many online connections within Rotary but meeting face to face invariably takes the friendship to a new a special level.
The meeting culminated when Past President Doug had the honour to present Vicki with a cheque for $2,000 on behalf of the Rotary e Club Canada One. The funds were generously donated by the members and the club to support Vicki's project:  Creating Opportunities for Guatemalans .
Tears of joy and happiness revealed Vicki's immense gratitude; it was a wonderful surprise.

Muchas Gracias  from Nicaragua

Great RI video about what Rotarians can do about promoting peace but also pointing out the decreasing numbers of wars and the increase in democracy contrary to what many will have us believe.
David Werrett, Rotary E-Club of Canada One, D-5370

I liked the visual story (allegory) of the cockroach.  M. Cochetel's TED Talk was excellent, but difficult to sit through because of the content.  Your programs are inevitably interesting and informative.  My favorite online makeup!
Judy Redpath, RC of Herndon, Virginia, D7610

Watched and read the weekly bulletin provided by the Rotary E-Club of Canada One. The Ted talk by Vincent Cochetel was very moving. He offered a rare insight into the risks that humanitarian aid workers encounter in areas of conflict.
Lou Spizzirri, Rotary E-Club of Canada One, D-5370

I am not sure I enjoyed his talk.  He spoke of difficult things he said his colleagues made the decision to stand at the side of the poor.  He made this decision, he was kidnapped because of this decision, he suffered because of this decision. He continues on because he has made this decision. Bless him and bless all those who work internationally to help the poor and suffering.
Lorne Crozon, RC of Regina Oskaya, Saskatchewan, D-5550

How to Get as much as you Give
WHAT IF . . . Money actually really does buy happiness?  It does, but not in the way you might think!
RESEARCH SAYS: Charitable giving is scientifically proven to benefit the giver as much as the receiver. It works just like a positive feedback loop: giving makes people happier, and happier people give more. And it's not just about money. Anytime you give-whether it's your time, your affection, or your creative resources-your brain rewards you with a shot of feel-good hormones, and a bright new outlook on life and love.
TRY THIS: Think about what your greatest talent is. Do you excel at a particular skill-creative, athletic, mental, relational? Identify a person or group who could really use the resource you have to give. Give it and tell us how you feel and what you learned.

Rotary Jukebox
For a small donation, your favorite musician will be featured on one of our next e-meetings for everyone to enjoy.
Every week we'll have a draw and the lucky person will see their song featured!
