Greeter this week: Sharon Blaker

In January 2013, my husband Phil and I made trip to South America to be part of one of our past Exchange Student, Elissa's graduation from university as a lawyer. Her introduction included the item that she graduated from high school in Chilliwack, British Columbia - which she did with honours.
The graduation ceremonies and parties went on for three days.  They sure know how to celebrate! The graduates have a dance with one of their parents and Phil was included in this honour. We then travelled with her and her mother, Rita, for two weeks around Brazil.
We were all enjoying drinks in Rio de Janeiro at the "Girl from Ipanema" restaurant and bar. We received an I-Phone photo of our new granddaughter, Cyrenne, who had just arrived in Whitehorse, Yukon - 5 weeks early!  We got quite excited, which brought the manager over.
He noticed my Rotary pin at the same time I noticed his.  This resulted in a very lively evening as he hosted us to congratulatory drinks and joined us to compare Rotary 'notes'.  We also got to hear the 'true' version of the 'Girl from Ipanema' song along with the fact that she still comes into the restaurant from time to time.

He even wrote a congratulatory note to our newest family member, Cyrenne!  This was delivered to her parents upon our return.

"David Attenborough"
To be honest it wasn't so much about what he was saying, it was all about the visual for me.  Beautiful videography.

Wendy Giuffre, RC of Calgary South, AB, D-5360

What a great documentary!  Exposes those of us that are not in a position to explore Alberta's back country.  The guide is a real steward of the land, demonstrating respect and integrity at all times.
Shirley Smith, RC of Edmonton Northeast, D-5370, D-5370

The Speaker was very inspirational. She showed an abundance of strength for both traveling alone as a woman, but also speaking about her struggle with depression.
Krista Blankley, RC of Kalamalka, BC, D-5060

As a first time visitor I was amazed about the variety and quality of the provided programs. I reviewed several, quite enjoyable and I will come back.
Bernd Horeth, RC of Munchen 100, Germany, D-1842

"Meet the microscopic life in your home -- and on your face"
It was a great Ted talk. I am around microbiologist's all day myself, and have heard the same excitement in their voices.

Craig Fowler, RC of Barrie, Ontario, D-7010

News from the Rotary E-Club Family

Who says e-clubbers don't get to know their fellow members when we are so far away from each other.
During the Weekly FellowSIP Coffee Chat September 14, the team used Zoom for the first time to hear Keith Evans present a most interesting Classification Talk.
Keith who was born in Stephenville, Newfoundland, has traveled extensively, mostly for work and currently works and lives in Great Brittain.
With a new grandchild in Edmonton he may make the occasional trip back to Edmonton, where he was a member of the Edmonton NorthEast Rotary Club.
Keith and his wife Nancy, who he first met at Sunday school when he was 12,  adopted 3 orphaned children from the far east.

"What is the value of the life of one child saved? No one will ever know, but if
the child were our own, the price tag would be marked: Not for sale - this life is
invaluable."
