Welcome to this weeks meeting of
The Rotary e Club Canada One
Need to make up meeting?

100% attendance in Rotary is easy to achieve.....there is really no excuse if you are an engaged Rotarian. In fact in the world of social media, including so-called E-Club Rotary, its is very easy to do 300% and never lift a finger within your club.....there is so much communication available out there; various Rotary venues, forums, fellowships, online clubs to visit. Last week, because of an invite through an online Rotary Forum, I attended a meeting on the island of Mauritius, with people from Réunion and Madagascar. How's that for Rotary When and Where You Want?
If you are also engaged in other activities with your own club, be it on a committee or on the Board, helping to make things function, every time you take part in a Rotary based activity, it counts as attendance. I really like the notion of a "Floating Rotarian" because it gives you the opportunity to have a club to call home, but a bigger opportunity to partake of what Rotary does in a very open way, most anywhere in the world. It doesn't have to be a home club activity, and for those not near a cluster of other members of the club, I encourage them to reach out and do more than show up for the meeting that was uploaded on Sunday night.....; Take a look at what Rotary has to offer not only to the World but also to yourself. Do what you can in your own club, but also reach out to see what Rotary offers you. Following some self-interest inside Rotary is a healthy thing and it adds to your attendance. If you miss a meeting or two of the club, for whatever reason, but have done other things within your club or within Rotary's world, just let your Secretary know.......and why is 100% important? Its a sign to yourself that you are a Rotarian... aren't you?

“At the end of life we will not be judged by how many diplomas we have received, how much money we have made, how many great things we have done.
We will be judged by "I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat, I was naked and you clothed me. I was homeless, and you took me in.”
― Mother Teresa

Comments from our Guests and Members
We always like to hear from our guests and members. Following are some of the things they tell us on the attendance form.
We would like you to receive your comments as well.

“Great snapshot of a way of life that we can enhance with programs such as those supporting literacy, without aiming to change a deeply grounded lifestyle.”
Susan Griffin, RC Strathcona Sunrise Courtney, BC – D5020

“Excellent video for Membership month, I also am enjoying the clips of life in Tuk.
In the information about Family in Rotary, I think an important point was missed, you could invite your family member or friend to become a Rotarian”.
Anne Skirving, R E-Club Canada One

“I think what stood out most for me, is the work that Rotary does with the youth. This resonates with me as I currently work with Interact on behalf of my club.”
Christopher Dorsett, RC West Nassau – D7020

Life in Tuk
Our club has chosen the Community of Tuktoyaktuk for a Literacy Project. In order to give you a better understanding of who we are serving, there will be several features under the heading of "Life in Tuk".

This month the first “Land of the Pingos Music Festival” was held in Tuk.
Competitors and artists came from around the Arctic Circle.
This is just a sample of some of the performers.

A Little Humor
My young grandson called the other day to wish me Happy Birthday.  He asked me how old I was, and I told him, 80.  My grandson was quiet for a moment, and then he asked, "Did you start at 1?"

New Members Corner
Paul P. Harris' August 1912 message to Rotarians: "Rotarianism is a step in the evolution of humanity and in the emancipation of  man from the exactions of unceasing servitude to the interests of self."
He goes on to write: "Don't fail to inventory your smiles. They are great assets, and stand in the same relation to success that frowns do to failure.

Acquaintance, the Foundation of Success.
Here's to success, real success, your success, my success, the world's success; and here's to the foundation of success, the practicalized, scientized, sterilized, vitalized foundation of your success, my success, the world's success - acquaintance, the dynamics and harmonies of Rotary."

Rotary Minute
Eighty percent of the world polio free, two of three strains eradicated.
If progress is measured in numbers, Rotary has entered rarified air in the fight against polio. Eighty percent of the world is now certified polio free, and only one strain continues to circulate today, according to Dr. Bruce Aylward, who leads the World Health Organization's polio eradication program.

Food for Thought

WHAT IF: giving and receiving compliments is the best mood booster out there?

RESEARCH SAYS: We all like to be praised for a job well done, but you’ll be surprised just how much. Researchers have found that college students valued boosts to their self-esteem more than any other pleasant activity they were asked about, including favorite foods, drinking alcohol, seeing a best friend, or receiving a paycheck. It turns out a simple compliment goes a long way.

TRY THIS: Help boost someone’s self-esteem by giving him/her a sincere compliment. How did the person react?  How did you feel?
- Will Marré
