Rotary and Busyness
To say this year has been busy for me would be the proverbial gross understatement, but, throughout it all, Rotary has been one of the constants. And that's the way it should be.
None of us who are serious about being Rotarians would argue against the proposition that because Rotary is not just a club, but a way of life - Service Above Self - it becomes part of who you are. In this way, being happy about finding time to do a meeting, or taking satisfaction in making a donation to Foundation, or enjoying seeing fellow Rotarians, or feeling guilty about not doing enough for Rotary, are entirely natural to our Rotarian dispositions.
During the past 12 months not only have I been involved with building a new multi-million dollar church for my congregation, helping run the owners' association of a resort of which I am President, developing our acreage and building a new house for my wife and me, sneaking off to the UK and Ireland for three weeks, and, as a byline it sometimes seemed, running my hectic law practice, but I have also been struggling mightily to stay a productive member of Rotary. My friends in Rotary, happily, have both supported me during this time, and helped to provide me with an anchor of sanity and calm. I have not been greatly involved, but I am still greatly committed.
Whenever you feel snowed under, just do one of our on-line meetings.  It may only last 45 minutes or so, but the time spent is invaluable. In our meetings, you have the opportunity of putting all your personal strivings in perspective - you see that in comparison to the lot of others in the world, many of whom Rotary is helping, we are incredibly blessed, and have little about which to complain. A small effort for Rotary makes a huge difference in the lives of the unfortunates we aid.
So, stay committed to Rotary, and do whatever you can within our great organization.  Busy times will come and go, but Rotary will always be there, and will welcome whatever energy you can direct its way.

Comments from our Guests and Members
Members and guest attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring and entertaining weekly meetings.
Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you send us your comments please?

An interesting program by Judson Brewer giving a simple way to break a bad habit.  He highlights the cognitive thinking of attaching a challenge to trying to beat the habit by letting it go.
Phyllip Pressey, Rotary E-Club of Canada One, D-5370

I enjoyed Food for Thought 'This Letter is to You' the most. I learned quite a bit about what is happening with the planning for the upcoming 100th anniversary of our Rotary Foundation. I did not even know that there was a book written about its history, and plan on buying it to share.
Geri Conrad, RC of Grande Prarie After Five, AB, D-5370

Interesting meeting. Talk by Andrew Youn on ending extreme poverty made some good points.  We have a long way to go but it does not seem impossible.
Gord Lewis, Rotary E-Club of Canada One, D-5370

Great start to a new work week, especially during November, Foundation month. But remember, as Yvon Chouinard said: In order to do good, you have to do something!

Have you noticed the worldmap all the way at the bottom of our webpage?
Click on it and see what happens.
It is a widget called Clustrmaps, which counts and shows the geographical location of all visitors to your blog. The number of visitors from a location is indicated by the relative size of the dot. It is a nice tool that will show you where all those visiting our website are located. And yes, they are all over the world!
Today I noticed that my laptop using Chrome did not show it anymore. If you have the same problem you may want to go to this link and follow the instructions to get Clustrmaps back:

News from the E-Club Family

For those of you who were not aware, our own Gord Lewis underwent shoulder surgery November 22nd.
He recently wrote us:
"I am a one-handed "typer", so a bit slow.  Recovery is going OK but learning how to operate as a disabled person......
No pain but lots of discomfort with this stupid sling that has my arm bent at 90 deg. and sticking straight out in front of my body for about 3 more weeks at least.
I have fallen in love with my Lazyboy chair, found it almost impossible to sleep in bed even with a bed wedge".

With a little TLC and his LazyBoy Chair, Gordy will be able to function again as before.

Please send Gord a get well message at gelbal@shaw.ca

The Importance of Wearing the Rotary Pin

by Sakuji Tanaka, Past President, Rotary International.

I am a Japanese businessman, and I wear a suit almost every day. The Rotary pin is always on my lapel. It is there because I am proud to be a Rotarian. Anywhere I go, people will see the pin and know who I am. Other Rotarians will see it and know that I am a friend, and people who are not Rotarians will see it as well. I want to be sure that all of them also understand the meaning of this pin.
