Greeter This Week: Juan Carlos Reyes

My fellow worldwide and Canada sprinkled Rotarians, I bring you today a message of joy. Take a second and think of your most cherish summer memory, it could perhaps take you to your childhood days on a beach with your family or in your current years enjoying the gift mother nature bestow upon us during what in Canada is a way too short of a season. As your current program chair and a happy e-club member, I am able to write this message from the edge of a dock overlooking a magnificent lake and taking in some of the most pristine views our country has to offer, while at the same time enjoying a cup of coffee. All this, before the little minions wake up and we get to work in making happy memories, which if done properly, 30 years from now, while being members of a virtual reality e-club, they will be asked to dig back in their memory bank for their happiest memory of summer as a child and they would be able to site the weekend, when they got up and saw their daddy sitting on a chair over looking the lake, drinking a cup of coffee, working away on his laptop ;).

Have a wonderful week and keep in mind is August! (and if you said, that's awful, you will truly enjoy today's talk!)

Comments from our Guests and Members

I enjoyed the program, delivered in a very entertaining way.  Many truths and lessons to be taken away from her message.  I enjoyed the variety of information, including the Rotary Jukebox - great idea, thank you!
Tommy Faust - Fairhope Rotary Club, Alabama

The thoughtful inspirational greeting by PDG Al was most appreciated.
John Eberhard - Rotary club of London

I will share the specific body poses/body language exercises to express confidence and calm powerful presence. I enjoyed hearing both the science and the stories of this practice.

The hospitality was tremendous. How open and friendly these people are. Also how they still have traditions and are willing to show us.
Jim Connor, Swan City, D-22868

Seeing a different part of Northern Canada was really interesting.  It's too bad some of the tourists shown were so dismissive of Northern crafts.
Laurie Prange-Martin, Rotary Club of Whitehorse, D-5010

Loved the Canadian Anthem video--really proud to be a Canadian.  Speaker Jimmy Carter--a very powerful and profound message that we all need to pay attention to!!

Real Time Meetings
Each first Tuesday of the month our club holds its live on-line Board meeting, starting with fellowship at 4:30 pm Pacific Time. Each 3rd Tuesday of the month is our Fellowship Assembly, starting at 5:00 pm Pacific Time. All members are welcome to attend and encouraged to participate. Your opinion is important! Contact President Jim  or info@rotaryeclubcanada.ca for directions to attend the e-meeting.

August is Membership Month!

Each August we celebrate Membership Month, an opportunity to thank our members for their commitment to Rotary. We begin 2015-16 celebrating strong membership growth of nearly 25,000 members this past year. The hard work and support of our members has led to successes such as the recent polio eradication milestones in Nigeria and on the entire African continent, both of which marked one year without a case of polio caused by the wild poliovirus. Those achievements wouldn’t have been possible without members’ dedication and their continued support of Rotary and The Rotary Foundation.

We hope you have an opportunity to participate in Membership Month promotions and activities, which are listed on Rotary’s social media pages, in The Rotarian’s August issue, and on Rotary.org. We encourage you to share these features with your clubs to help us show our appreciation to all members. And we invite you to watch this 2 minute membership message from RI President K.R. Ravindran at a club meeting.

ROTARY MOTTOES
The first motto of Rotary International, "He Profits Most Who Serves Best," was approved at the second Rotary Convention, held in Portland, Oregon, in August 1911. The phrase was first stated by a Chicago Rotarian, Art Sheldon, who made a speech in 1910 which included the remark, "He profits most who serves his fellows best." At about the same time, Ben Collins, president of the Rotary Club of Minneapolis, Minnesota, commented that the proper way to organize a Rotary club was through the principle his club had adopted-"Service, Not Self." These two slogans, slightly modified, were formally approved to be the official mottoes of Rotary at the 1950 Convention in Detroit-"He Profits Most Who Serves Best" and "Service Above Self." The 1989 Council on Legislation established "Service Above Self" as the principal motto of Rotary, since it best explains the philosophy of unselfish volunteer service.

What is the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park?

Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park is a combination of two individual parks: Waterton Lakes National Park in Alberta and Glacier National Park in Montana.
Waterton Lakes National Park was established in 1895 and Glacier National Park was established in 1910. In 1995, Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park was designated a World Heritage Site.
