Joy Sun: Should you donate differently? Dec 1-7, 2014
Greeter this week: David Werrett
Hello and greetings. Welcome to the Rotary E-Club of Canada One weekly meeting. Our club has really accomplished some great things in its short existence. These include a donation to Alliance for Smiles, Shelterbox for the Philippines hurricane, funding for a young girl to attend RYLA in Terrace, B.C. and, in progress, our project with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library to provide books for children in Tuktoyaktuk.
I was speaking with a Rotarian friend recently and told him about the Imagination Library project and he asked me to send him some information about it. His reply gave me pause to think, he wrote that we are “making a difference”. We really are making a difference to the lives of those children in Tuktoyaktuk by enabling them to become literate. For more information, or to make a donation toward this project, please click on the Dolly Parton Imagination Library box on the left side of this page.

As the second largest country in the world in area, it has become quite a settlement! Canada has grown from a confederation of British Colonies in 1867, to a vibrant modern nation today.

"I enjoyed the variety of mediums of information. The information was a useful set of history, current programs, and future goals. I will be updating my new member program materials using your description of TRF. It is a great updated synopsis of the Foundation."

"I really enjoyed Chris' greeting. I'm teaching ESL students how to read for academic purposes and it's difficult to convince them to read for pleasure as they don't feel they have enough time. Literacy is a privilege that should really be a right."

"I will become President next June of a 100 member club - this is the 1st time I have seen your website - I was unable to open speaker portion but found concept interesting - might consider this program for one of our meetings as means of introducing the concept to our members."

Rotary E-Club Retention: It's time to recommit

Rotary International has identified membership as it's most pressing issue in maintaining the strength of our organization, the longest continuous serving organization of service clubs in the world.
At 37,000 clubs and 1.2 million members we have power to effect change around the world without the encumbrance of political interference. Rotary has been effective at home in our communities, and around the world as partners with private and public organizations to eliminate disease on a global scale, and even as partners in the creation of the United Nations.
Despite these remarkable achievements, Rotary has the same number of global members today as it did 10 years ago. This is the issue Rotary has identified as critical and embodies the matter of not just attracting new members, but engaging and retaining current members.
Membership retention begins with the individual member and this is even more true with e-clubs than traditional clubs. It is very easy for e-club members to meet the minimum requirement of attendance without ever engaging Rotary or other Rotarians in meaningful ways. If you haven't attended a Fellowship Assembly, Board Meeting or volunteered to be part of the success of the e-club we all loose, but you, the member, looses most. There are many ways to participate, find one right for you or contact President Doug or Membership Chair Bruce Today!

How we nominate our Rotary International President.
The process Rotary International uses to elect our President is the purest and the most democratic process. Annually, the Nominating Committee is chosen from 17 Zones. This year, the evenly numbered Zones (2 to 34) made up the Nominating Committee. Next year, it will be the odd numbered Zones (1 to 34). The Committee is composed of past Rotary International Directors, one from each of the 17 Zones.
