At the recent Rotary International Convention held in Toronto, I attended the final plenary session at the Air Canada Center.
The venue was packed and the mood was really upbeat with thousands of Rotarians from all over the world in a festive mood, ready to celebrate the final official "get-together" of the convention.
This was my first RI Convention and my wife, Jocelyne, and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

During the convention we bumped into my virtual friend, Kitty Bucsko, the founder and member of the Rotary E-Club of the Caribbean, District 7020, who helps me out by supplying material and suggestions for our weekly meeting.

Past District Governor, Tanya Wolff, who was instrumental in setting up our E-Club and is an Honorary E-Club Member, was a volunteer SAA at the event and we also met up with her.

At the final plenary, I started chatting with the lady who was seated next to me, Mary Rashleigh from Huntsville, Ontario.
It turns out that she was the first ever female President for the Rotary Club of Grimsby, Ontario, and a fellow scuba diver.

Valued connections in life, another advantage of being in Rotary!

Comments from our Guests and Members

Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you send us your comments please?

Margaret Werthen and her sister Christine studied the mathematics of coral. It has been found that coral can be only modelled by crochet. What has been determined is that through this modelling that straight lines can be hyperbolic or curves. Once one of the curves edges of a crocheted modelled coral is flattened it becomes straight. It was though by mathematicians that a straight line which is considered as only one parallel line can pass through a point or Euclidean Space and not a Spherical space. Modelling coral has proven that wrong. Margaret and her sister now have people modelling coral all over the world with exhibits in places like New York, London, and Los Angeles.

Surprising solution to ocean plastic; an interesting concept but it doesn't address the most important task which is to convince people to reduce or stop using plastic.
Vicki Horsfield, Rotary E-Club of Canada One, D-5370

Entering a new Rotary year we need to get our batteries charged for our commitments in the coming year in order to all around us in our daily lives. It is good to share this recharging and refocusing with musicians like Sting. I guess most of us have dry periods in life. Onward.
Lynne Ternosky, Rotary E-Club of Canada One, D-5370

The story of the Rotarians who have volunteered to take part in polio vaccination days and have done so many times shows such commitment and dedication.

A Little Humour
A man notices a pirate and asks him, "Excuse me sir, but why do you have a hook hand?"
The pirate says, "Arr, yes, me hook hand. A sword cut me right below the elbow."
"Well, what about your peg leg?" Says the man
"Arrr, me peg leg. A cannonball shot me right below the kneecap."
"Well, what about your patch eye?"
"Arrr, me patch eye, I was standing on the poop deck and a seagull pooped in me eye!"
"A seagull pooped in your eye? That can't take an eye out."
"Arrr, but you've got to remember, it was the first day with the hook."

Food for Thought
"The best people possess a feeling for beauty, the courage to take risks, the discipline to tell the truth, the capacity for sacrifice. Ironically, their virtues make them vulnerable; they are often wounded, sometimes destroyed."
-Ernest Hemingway
