The video entitled "It only takes a girl" really stirred strong emotions for me as this matter is very close to my family values. My grandfather was a strong believer in the rights of women to get an equal place in society according to their aspirations and values. Some work by the Gates Foundation, recognizes the sad fact that in many under-developed countries women are at the bottom of their village hierarchy while in many cases being the most economically productive. By contrast, in the developed world, women in many faculties of science and medicine, are now the majority. Perhaps, just perhaps, we could achieve some our goals faster by training those educated women to mentor women of the developing world to break the cycle demonstrated by the video. As I welcome you to this meeting of our club, I am also asking: is it something that we could encourage as Rotarians?

Crime Inc. - scary big business!  I wonder when it will announce it's IPO and be listed on the NYSE?
Gordon Lewis, Rotary E-Club of Canada One, D-5370

Enjoyed the solitude of reading and watching on my own. Very peaceful and lots of time to reflect. I love the sponsorship through Project Amigo, amazing what an impact sponsoring one child can have on an entire village and even country! I will share this project at my Belleville club ISC committee meeting.
Amy Doyle,  Rotary Club of Belleville, Ontario, D-7070

Speakers via internet could be a solution to clubs like ours who struggle to get interesting speakers. I will share this with our club.
Johann van der Westhuizen, Randburg D-9400

An excellent idea, with California's acute drought.
Could be copied in any urban setting - like the kitchen gardens of old, on family farms.

Archie Skirving, Rotary E-Club of Canada One, D-5370

Many people have been affected by the devastation resulting from the earthquake in Nepal.
As we mourn the thousands of lost lives, Rotary joins many international agencies in providing immediate relief to survivors and mobilizing our expertise to support long-term recovery and rebuilding efforts.
Several ShelterBox relief teams have been deployed and more help is needed.
Elly and Ramiro challenge our members to match their $50.00 donation to Shelter Box, You can help too. CLICK HERE:

Food for Thought

"If we're going to live an ethical life, it's not enough just to follow the thou-shalt-nots. ... If we have enough, we have to share some of that with people who have so little."
