Welcome to the Rotary E-Club of Canada One meeting. Last week I was delighted to meet with two Rotary Clubs in beautiful, friendly Yellowknife on my way North thanks to Paul and Biswanath's hospitality and introductions in Yellowknife.
Surprisingly both clubs met in new places. The Yellowknife Club met and asked me to speak about our Imagination Library project. They will meet this coming week to discuss it at their board meeting. They also made suggestions about who we might approach.
The second Club, Yellowknife North was meeting while constructing beds in a new woman's shelter and asked me to join in. I took this opportunity to present the Rotary E-Club of Canada One club banner to several of The Rotarians in front of one the beds we assembled together. This is what Rotary is all about.
I thank each Club for their welcome to me as I hope you will feel here today.
Enjoy this week's meeting and hopefully by next week I will have another location to report from.
While I am writing this, I am sitting in a northern Canada airport above the Arctic circle waiting for the fog to clear to go to the next stop in NWT where the Imagination Library shared the Rotary story with people of the North and they have shared their stories and dreams with me.

Hug of the century

Our membership was recently expanded with a new members from the Yukon.
In the past we have showcased clips from each of the provinces our members live. So in all fairness we should show you something of Yukon.
Comments from our Guests and Members
We always like to hear from our guests and members. Following are some of the comments from the attendance form.
We would like you to receive your comments as well.

"The Rotary Acronyms (in one of your recent meetings) have always puzzled many new Rotarians while older members forget that not everyone is familiar with many of them.  A refresher every so often is great.
I enjoyed your layout of the club page, very useful and clear."
Karl H. Wahl, Thunder Bay(Fort William) - D5580

"The use of TED talks is great. I am always impressed by the quality and breath of videos available. I am a member of a traditional Rotary Club and I am trying to get them to adopt a method to attend via telepresence to the regular meeting. I think this would be a great combination of the two styles of clubs".
Julius Bagley, RC Gwinnett - D6910

"I loved the content of the speaker's presentation(Nicholas Negroponte).  I knew of some of the programs he mentioned, but seeing them pictured brought them to life."
Janis French - D7020

"The most I enjoyed was Inspirational Moment."
Antonio Custodio de Oliveira Filho, RC Brusque - D4651

Vocational Service is the "Second Avenue of Service." No aspect of Rotary is more closely related to each member than a personal commitment to represent one's vocation or occupation to fellow Rotarians and to exemplify the characteristics of high ethical standards and the dignity of work. Programs of vocational service are those which seek to improve business relations while improving the quality of trades, industry, commerce and the professions. Rotarians understand that each person makes a valuable contribution to a better society through daily activities in a business or profession. Vocational Service is frequently demonstrated by offering young people career guidance, occupational information and assistance in making vocational choices. Some clubs sponsor high school career conferences. Many recognize the dignity of employment by honoring exemplary service of individuals working in their communities. The 4 -Way Test and other ethical and laudable business philosophies are often promoted among young people entering the world of work. Vocational talks and discussion of business issues are also typical vocational service programs at most clubs. Regardless of the ways that Vocational Service is expressed, it is the banner by which Rotarians "recognize the worthiness of all useful occupations" and demonstrate a commitment to "high ethical standards in all businesses and professions." That's why the Second Avenue of Service is fundamental to every Rotary club.

Food for Thought
How much money will it take to make you happy?
Did you know that after $75,000/year, money has little effect on our happiness? That’s right. People in the U.S. who make $75,000 are just as happy as those who make $150,000. Money really doesn’t buy happiness after all.

TRY THIS: For one week find ways to have fun without spending money. Pack a picnic instead of going to a restaurant, host a game night instead of going to a movie - you get the idea.

This officially ends this week’s meeting.
