Greeter this week: David Werrett
Always wear your Rotary Pin
Last week when Sharon and I stopped at a popular Italian bistro in Calgary the lunch time crowd had all of the tables occupied so Sharon asked a person sitting on their own if we could share the table.  When I sat down the person said "You are a Rotarian?" after noticing my Rotary pin.  We introduced ourselves and soon found out that Carmelo was from Fort McMurray and a member of the Rotary Club of Fort McMurray.  Fortunately Carmelo and his wife Florence, also a Rotarian, had left Fort McMurray to come to Calgary the day before the evacuation was ordered as a result of the wild fires.
On our way home Sharon said "we should invite them for lunch" and so, about a week later, Carmelo and Florence and E-Club member Jean-Michel and his wife Barbara joined us for lunch.  Which extended late into the afternoon as our conversation ranged over many subjects including life in Fort McMurray, Carmelo and Florence's businesses and the Rotary projects of our respective clubs.
A chance meeting which enabled us to learn about Fort McMurray from a personal perspective.
So wear your Rotary pin, it can lead to interesting and enjoyable encounters and opportunities for Fellowship.

Victoria Day (in French: Fête de la Reine) is a federal Canadian public holiday celebrated on the last Monday before May 25, in honour of Queen Victoria's birthday. The date is also, simultaneously, that on which the current reigning Canadian sovereign's official birthday is recognized. It is sometimes informally considered as marking the beginning of the summer season in Canada.

Wow! I am trying to help a little girl in our organization to read. She is bored; I am struggling. After listening to Don Tapscott, I looked for an App and sure enough, there was a fun interactive App. Don Tapscott made me realize that, as a teacher, I need to change my approach in helping my students learn.

Education has always been a life long journey. But learning to learn is a lost art to many learning under previous models of top down instruction. I believe there is a place for those who have not learned how to be self starters. Seeing the involvement of many helping those leave the fire centers for safety is an excellent example of self starters.Rotary is an excellent facilitator of Giving a Hands up to those in distress but also for the longer term as they try to  rebuild or learn how to Improve their community.
Lynne Ternosky, Rotary E-Club of Canada One, D-5370

The short video about about the long history of Rotary Youth exchange. Also enjoyed the TedX talk about searching for your passion. Passion is about living a life with purpose and making a difference. Just like the Rotary motto of Service Above Self.

Powerful last words of Steve Jobs -
I have come to the pinnacle of success in business.
In the eyes of others, my life has been the symbol of success.
However, apart from work, I have little joy. Finally, my wealth is simply a fact to which I am accustomed.
At this time, lying on the hospital bed and remembering all my life, I realize that all the accolades and riches of which I was once so proud...
