Greeter this week: Elly Contreras
No matter what city you are in, Rotary is always visible; sometimes more prominent than others.
We recently attended the D5060 Conference in Kelowna, and Rotary, represented by 8 clubs was everywhere. Within just a few blocks, we saw the Rotary Centre of the Arts, Rotary Park, Rotary Beach and much more projects with the Rotary name on it.
District Conferences and International Conventions are a great way to meet new friends, and learn about their clubs and projects.
Carlo Geat, Exchange student from Italy, sponsored by Osoyoos was our passenger joining a large group of other students at the conference, from both BC and Washington State. They totally inspired us with their presentations.
D5060 Stretches all the way from Clearwater in the north, Cache Creek west, Revelstoke, East, and Grandview, Washington State south.
This was one of the largest Conferences of D5060, whose District Governor Vern Nielsen lost his battle to cancer four months before completing his term. Several of his DG Classmates attended the conference in his honour, including our own DG Laura. Speakers such as PRIVP Bob Scott, RIVPE Dean Rohrs inspired an energized us.
We were reminded, that Rotary is changing, but the need for serving will never change.
I encourage all Rotarians and their partners to attend a Conference or Convention. It is a life changing experience.
Register for the Ft McMurray Conference From September 28 to 30. I'll be there!

I was absolutely amazed by the advances displayed in human bionics. It is another tangible example of what we can accomplish when faced with challenge.
Robert Boyden, RC of Canmore, D-5360
Forest Man, amazing what one person can accomplish if they set their mind to it.
David Werrett, Rotary E-Club of Canada One, D-5370
The Muse live in Rome was a treat. I wasn't aware of the band and seeing the live show was very entertaining. Thanks Jim.
The TED talk by Natasha Hurley Walker I can say, tongue in cheek, out of this world. It was educational and awe inspiring.
Lou Spizzirri, Rotary E-Club of Canada One, D-5370
The feature program "Forest Man" was very inspirational, also the New Members Corner Video on the merits of the Youth Exchange Program was excellent.
Andy Adams, RC of Campbell River, BC, D-5020

Food for Thought
"It is easier to interest men in war than in peace; it therefore requires more moral
courage to talk peace than war."

"As a university student I followed Lightfoot in Toronto Yorkville coffee houses, groupie that I was then.
One day as a young mother, I heard him singing this song up stairs from us in our little apartment building in Sudbury where he visited and jammed all night with a neighbour.
Next morning we met him and chatted at the airport where he and my husband took the flight out. How shy I was then.
Much time has passed but Lightfoot is a true Canadian folk legend."
