Greeter this week:  Hanna Villas, former exchange student
Hello! My name is Hanna and I was the exchange student in Cochrane,
Alberta for 2011-12, that's how I met David Werrett, who asked me to write to you.
I am Brazilian, so you can imagine the cultural shock when I first got to Canada. I was amazed by how things looked so different, the cities, the mountains, the people, the wild life in their backyards. However, I was having the time of my life. I achieved many things during this amazing adventure of which I am proud;
I graduated from a Canadian High School. Together with other fellow exchangers and a group of Rotarians, organized a fundraising dinner to support Shelter Box, we raised twenty thousand dollars. I’m a city girl; going on the Rotary 10 day camping/canoeing trip was the craziest thing I’ve done to this point.
My vision of life and people changed tremendously throughout the
year. I feel like my mind, soul and heart expanded, and that alone makes me a happier person. I wish everyone had the opportunity to go on exchange, because it changes you, you no longer have one nationality, you belong to the world now, you have more than one family, and made friends that are spread around the globe.
Thank you for allowing me to be your greeter and enjoy this meeting! Hanna

Inspirational Moment
Submitted by Chris Langley
If you saw the movie "The King's Speech" you will be aware of how a man with an idea, but no qualifications understood how he could help King George VI, the current Queen's Father, to face the reality of being King and the need to make speeches, despite the fact that he was near paralyzed by an awful speech impediment, a stammer, simply by taking his mind off the need to speak, listen to music to make his brain busy and then speak, almost normally.

A teacher in England had a student with the same problem and a history of being bullied because of it. The teacher who had seen the film, wanted to give the technique a try. Watch this short film, watch the light in the teacher's eyes and watch the astonished expression in the student's eyes when he realized what was happening.

One can only imagine what was happening in his class mates minds when they saw the result.
We all have our awkward moments, times of ineptness, sheer fails......bullying and abusing people is no solution. Be prepared to step up, stand beside them and try to help. Be a chooser, not a spoiler. Be a Rotarian.

Let’s hear from our Guests and Members
Each week we receive comments from guests and members, who attend our e-meetings. We like to share some of these comments with you.

“I enjoyed how the make-up was designed as an actual meeting with fellowship, inspirational videos, introduction of members, etc.”
Carey Jackson, RC Hartwell – D6910

“I always love reading the comments that come in from visiting Rotarians it is a great testament.”
Doug Dyer, Rotary e-club of Canada One -  D5370

“I am currently on my district's committee to set up our first eClub and I now have a good idea of how an e-meeting can be laid out and be interesting and humorous. The messages from the greeter, committee chairs, etc. bring in a personal aspect to the meeting and the video clips are great.”
Tolu Enaibe, RC Falomo – D9110

“Very good meeting; Great explanation by Elly about supporting the Foundation followed by how some of the funds were put to use in India. The inspirational video was amazing, to think that someone born without arms goes about life as if he was born like anyone else.”
David Werrett, Rotary E-club of Canada One - D5370

Fellowship Corner
I had the great pleasure of meeting fellow e-club member David Werrett and his wife Sharon, they were on a fall tour of BC from Alberta. Like the great Rotarian that David is, he reached out and made sure that Rotary was part of his trip. It was inspiring to hear of David and Sharon's experiences in the wonderful global organization and their commitment to being involved. Thank you David and Sharon

International Toilet Day
November 19 has been designated by the United Nations as World Toilet Day.

Whaattt? There is actually a day devoted to the honor of the humble toilet?  The answer is both “Yes” and “This is serious stuff.”

Looking back over the past 300 years, the greatest gains in human health and lifespan have occurred after improvements in sanitation. One estimate is that the smallpox vaccine added about 2 years to worldwide longevity, the polio vaccine added about 7 years. The flush toilet added 15 years. The polio virus is spread via human fecal material. We cannot eliminate polio in the world without universal treatment of human waste, the two are closely related.
Rotary and the Rotary Foundation know the importance of sanitation and have made Water and Sanitation one of its Six Areas of Focus.  The Gates Foundation knows the importance of sanitation and has sponsored a contest to develop a self-contained toilet, which does not require a community sanitation system.  (The University of Toronto in Zone 24 took $40,000 and third place in this competition for their device, which sanitizes waste and recovers usable resources.)
