Greeter this week: Joe Kapron

I have just passed my fifth year as a Rotarian and enjoy the engagement and opportunities that being a member offer. I think that many new Rotarians may find things overwhelming at first, but a good friend who is also a Rotarian mentored me to pace myself. Taking on too much early on may result in a quick burn-out if you are not prepared for it. I have become involved as a member of our donations committee which reviews requests for local support as well as international support. I have also taken on the chair of our trails, parks, environment and camper committee. Our club (the Peterborough Rotary Club) has been a leader in the development of walking/cycling trails throughout the city of Peterborough.
I am also an avid curler and took on the role of the Canadian director on the International Curling Fellowship of Rotarians and am now the secretary/treasurer of the fellowship.
While not a requirement, I have strived to have 100% attendance at our meetings, using make-ups when needed. I enjoy using the weekly meeting of the Rotary E-Club of Canada One for make-ups because of the structure of the meetings, the information provided and topics that are covered.
With my job, I have the opportunity to visit and work in a variety of locations in Ontario. In the picture, we are returning from auditing forest inventory work in the Lake of the Woods region.

Comments from our Guests and Members
Members and guest attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring and entertaining weekly meetings.
Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you send us your comments please?

The talk on using math to figure out the world wasn't at all what I expected and I really enjoyed it. The greeter bio was great too, so nice to see a fellow woman profiled.

I really liked the idea of baking cookies for orphans. However it was more in benefit of the volunteers than the children. Just after reading another article about the dangers of sugar, I wonder if there are other gifts that would benefit orphans more. such as books, or learning tools ? Anyway, it was another great meeting.

Grandiose plans do not need to be in place to make a difference. Just get started, have the passion and see where it leads.

News from the Rotary E-Club Family
Submitted by Elly Contreras
During the Holiday Season, most people traditionally spend time with their family, visiting, chatting, having wonderful dinners together or visiting for a drink. For those who are not near any family members, they may pick up the phone, have a FaceTime or Skype conversation and wish each other a blessed season and happy new year.
For members of our Rotary family, it is also important that we connect with each other, find out how everyone is doing and send warm wishes.
Most members of our Rotary Family live far away from each other, and some may not even have family members to spend the holidays with.
Why not pick up the phone, or sit down at the computer, turn on your camcorder and dial that number. Wishing your Rotary brothers and sister (and the parents of course a wonderful holiday season.
We'll be waiting for your call.

Real Time Meetings

Each 3rd Tuesday of the month is our Fellowship Assembly, starting at 5:00 pm Pacific Time. All members are welcome to attend and encouraged to participate. Your opinion is important! A sneak peek at the new Rotary.org
In January, visitors to Rotary.org will discover a new, contemporary site that tells Rotary's story in a fresh and exciting way. Rotary staff offer a look at the site's features: a modern design, increased use of imagery and graphics, and better organization to help readers - especially newcomers - find out who we are and what we're doing.
