Greeter this week:  Frank Yak

On my recent trip to Yellowknife, NWT,  I arranged to meet with my follow E- Club Canada One member, Paul Falvo. I left the suggested place for lunch with him; secretly counting on his choice to be the Cellar, which my Facebook research indicated as one of his favorites. Paul was delayed by his law work which allowed me time for a walk to the YK Library where I picked up a free take away book. One of the joys of Rotary is that you can meet old friends, discuss matters of interest with each other and feel comfortable away from your home environment.
Please consider a get together with a fellow Rotarian(s) on your next trip, it gives you and your fellow guest a good chance to share your goals and feelings about ways to serve your community.  With that in mind, please join our E-Club Meeting and if the mood hits you, leave a small donation to support the Rotary E-Club of Canada One.

Comments from our Guests and Members
We always like to hear from our guests and members. Following are some of the things they tell us on the attendance form; We would like you to receive your comments as well.

“I enjoyed the suggestions for including Rotary in your family.  Rotary plays a huge role in my family and I never truly appreciated how significant it was until my husband was wearing his fleece jacket with a Rotary logo on it an my 3 year old niece pointed to it and said "Rotary!".
Danielle Bork Rotary E-club Canada One

“Alliance for Smiles has a great impact on people who needed surgery on their mouth but could not afford it.
Clancey Ellingson, RC Calgary HP – D5360

“ Forest Man of India; Good photography and audio.
Every person has the opportunity to make a difference in the world and we should as Rotarians continue to believe and act on the belief.
Robert Enders, RC Stony Plain, AB – D5370

“Outstanding articles and video presentations.  The Forest Man was so inspiring, as the clip of giving pizza to a hungry man who in turn gave back.”
Sue Croft, RC Orillia – D7010

This is the first of what I hope will be a regular part of our weekly meetings. I have taken on the role of Foundation chair for the Club. The Foundation is a very integral part of Rotary. I have spent time in the last months trying to learn all I can about the Foundation but know that it will require many more hours to get up to speed on this topic. What I did learn, is that one of the most important items included in the Foundation portfolio is the Polio Plus program. This week I would like all members and guests to visit MyRotary.org and sign a petition to urge world leaders to provide critical funding to end polio forever. Once you are at the My Rotary home page you will see an "End Polio Now" banner - click on "learn how" and it will take you to the Polio Plus page where you will find all kinds of current information on Rotary's polio campaign and you can sign the on-line petition to help in this critical fight.
Note to all e-Club members and other visiting Rotarians- if you have not already done so, you should sign up at MyRotary.org - it is very easy to do, but if you need help, please contact Gord Lewis
Thank you in advance for signing the petition

A Little Humor
Due to a power outage, only one paramedic responded to the call. The house was very dark, so the paramedic asked Kathleen, a 3-year-old girl, to hold a flashlight high over her mother so he could see while he helped deliver the baby.
Very diligently, Kathleen did as she was asked. Heidi pushed and pushed and after a little while, Connor was born. The paramedic lifted him by his little feet and patted him on his bottom. Connor began to cry.
The paramedic then thanked Kathleen for her help and asked the wide-eyed 3-year-old what she thought about what she had just witnessed.
Kathleen quickly responded, 'He shouldn't have crawled in there in the first place........smack him again!'

Rotary Minute

When Marty Hatala, a member of the Rotary Club of Boaz, Alabama, first traveled to Ghana in 2010 to volunteer at a local orphanage, she saw how local communities struggled to find clean water. According to United Nations worldwide statistics, up to 40 billion hours a year are spent fetching water, primarily by women and children. Providing clean water is one of Rotary's six areas of focus. READ MORE
Food for Thought
The power of a simple act of kindness should never be underestimated. Brain scans reveal that whenever we give or receive compassion, care or selfless generosity, it lights up the same part of our brain in the same way that chocolate, intimacy, and sunshine do. This floods the body with oxytocin, the bonding chemical... a great thing for both personal and professional relationships. And as a result of all this loving synergy... creativity flourishes!

Think of three kind acts you can perform, either today or tomorrow. One for a stranger (like letting them take your place in line), one for a customer or coworker, and one for a loved one.
