Greeter this week: Doug Dyer
The Four Way Test  stands Tall in the e-world.
Welcome to our weekly e-club meeting and thank you for dropping in.
We are very proud of our young club and we are delighted to offer these meetings as Make Ups to Rotarians from all over the world.
We have learned some valuable lessons in this clubs' short history
and will continue to learn as we make our way in this  new environment.
Fortunately we are all members of an organization that has given us an
incredible and proven foundation as a guide to build lasting relationships
-The Four Way Test.
Have you noticed how easy it is to be misunderstood these days?
With the speed with which we routinely communicate  via
texting, email, facebook and tweeting etc.  The Four Way Test seems
even more relevant. A simple well intended e-mail  can be so easily
misconstrued  and in an instant every one is "unfriending" you in High
Speed.  Words typed in haste, you wish you could take back.
Personally I have found that applying the Four Way Test before
I press SEND can make a huge difference for me in the club and in my
business life.
A quick and hasty reply may feel good at the time of writing, but is it
building GOOD WILL and better FRIENDSHIP?
So, let the Four Way be your editor- it just may help.

This is the way of true giving
To not give truly is not to give
To give with a plaque is to indebt
To give publicly is an exchange of value
To give without empathy is to take dignity
To give with conditions is to employ
To give having taken is to trade
To give unfairly is to divide
To give hope that cannot be sustained is to disappoint
To give without value is to dispose
To give to your need is to profit
To give a debt is to enslave
- Calum Thomson

Only the wisest have achieved true giving; have learnt to give……. with trust and leave…….. the greatest gift of dignity.

How many of us other than doctors can say that in our lifetime we know that we have positively saved someone from death or permanent disablement? As we near - as we surely will - the complete elimination of Polio from the entire world through our combined Rotary efforts in PolioPlus we can know that we have done that.
Each of us will have – positively - saved someone from death or permanent disablement.
And this through the best kind of giving. Giving where the giver knows not the recipient, and the recipient knows not the giver.

Comments from our Guests and Members
“Project Amigo is a great Rotary program here in the State of Colima, Mexico. Maybe all E-Club members should think about making "a week" of it next year. We could have our first "E" convention on the beach in beautiful Manzanillo. Sure beats February in Canada!”
Gord Lewis, R E-Club Canada One

“The Literacy Book Project in Tuktoyaktuk NWT was very inspiring. As was Dolly Parton and the Imagination LIBRARY PROJECT. I am going to take some time to become familiar with the Guide to Literacy Service Projects and Awards.”
Judi Jones, RC Weyburn, SK – D5550

“While it was good to see the Literacy efforts from up North and into the US, I was most interested to read about the e-club FAQ. I learned a lot about the history and role of e-clubs. Thanks.”
Amy Stevenson, RC Campbell River – D5020

“The Alliance for Smiles video presentation was powerful and very touching. It is certainly a worthwhile project. I enjoyed learning about Vancouver, and hope to visit one day. Your club's literacy project in the Northwest Territories is very promising; our club does similar work in Central America through the Give-A-Book Foundation.”
Alan Ganthorn, RC Cantonment – D6940

Announcements
Welcome to our newest Member Rashmani Shakrabarty
I am very glad to have joined Rotary, and am excited to getting involved in all the things to do. I am planning on attending the Women of Rotary event on May 8th. It sounds like a great opportunity to experience the difference that female Rotarians have made, as well and meeting some people here in Edmonton who are part of Rotary!
I am enrolled at the University of Alberta, majoring in Science Psychology with a Minor in Classical History. I plan to attend Medical School, with my ultimate goal being Psychiatry. I am interested in soccer, physical fitness, and science fiction literature. I have spent a lot of my adolescence and first few years of University getting involved in local volunteering such as Student Council, Safe Walk, and Student's for Sustainable and Affordable Housing. I have also done international volunteering in El Salvador with Global Village and Habitat for Humanity.
My interest in joining Rotary is to get involved with more of these activities, and opportunities. I know that Rotary has many projects locally, and internationally, and I hope to get involved in quite a few of them. Furthermore, I hope that through experience and working with Rotarians who have a lot of knowledge in this area, I can learn how to organize these types of projects, and hopefully, in the future, be able to organize a few of my own.

Spring Training for Club Leaders
On March 8th, Ross Hallett and I attended the District 5370 Assembly and Spring Training for Secretaries, Treasurers, Club Foundation Chairs, Club and District Committee Chairs and Club Membership leaders.  Additionally, a technology and social media training center was operating throughout the day as well as information sessions on key District projects.
It was a fun, informative day and some of the things discussed included:
- Service database and the creating of computer records for Club Executive
- The standardization of Rotary logos
- Facebook, Twitter, Gotomeeting, etc, usage in Rotary
- Rotary fellowships;
In Ross's words:
"What is interesting and delight to behold is the information in Rotary
Fellowships.  This committee is encouraging the development of Fellowships and Action Groups.  Learn more about Fellowships HERE

New Members Corner
April is Magazine Month
Last month, we celebrated literacy.  This month, we put our reading skills to the test.  Everything in our lives depends on consistent, accurate and constant communication.  We receive Rotary communications regularly; through our weekly meetings, club emails, club website, district website and Rotary International.
As part of your membership in our club, you receive the monthly magazine, The Rotarian. Either in your mailbox or in e-version. This publication offers many insightful stories about Rotary projects and clubs throughout the world.  Over 1.2 million Rotarians are reading the same magazine in 23 languages.
Please take the time each month to read through your issue.  You will be impressed with the many activities our fellow Rotarians are involved in, as well as how we are able to assist people who do not have the same resources we have available.  If we want to promote Rotary to others, we need to be well informed!
