Service in Rotary is natural to us, regardless of its nature.  Service is, however, seldom glamorous, and usually involves the mundane and the banal.  In spite of this, what we Rotarians do for our fellow humans is invariably necessary.
Rotary has a history of looking after the basic needs of people through its service activities. Remember that the first Rotary service project in Chicago, in 1907, was the building of public toilets.  It’s what we’ve done ever since – we see an essential requirement, and we endeavour to supply it.
What prompts this thought?  My wife and I were scootering around the Grand Bahama island last week, and we came across this sign.  Again, prevention of road accidents isn’t glamorous, but it was obviously seen as a worthwhile and necessary service project by our fellows in Freeport.  This clever sign is supplying a sound warning to motorists, and is undoubtedly saving lives and preventing injuries.
The famous Victorian writer of spiritual devotions, Oswald Chambers, often spoke about how true faith involves serving happily, to the best of one’s abilities, even while doing simple and, perhaps, boring tasks.  This, he suggested, brings us closer to the divine.  I like to think that we Rotarians know this and live this each and every day.
Serve, serve with a smile, and serve even if the project seems dull – we are all better for it!

The facts on how much organized makes in a year around the world in one year. It was amazing to see where the highest concentration of drugs in the USA. It’s in the state of Vermont.

Always so informative and interesting. The gratitude video reminded me of the voice of one of our dear members who we lost just a few short months ago and who I am so grateful that I knew and who I called my friend.
Also enjoyed the tidbits about the Canadian flag.
I also liked attending a "meeting" on my own, alone with my thoughts and the program online. Very peaceful. Thank you again for this wonderful addition to Rotary!
Linda Oprica, Cumberland Centennial, D-5020

Loved the video on Canada's flag being 50; “Crime inc.” was totally fascinating--had no idea about Vermont; sad stats on drug use increasing 800 percent.  Eye opening video!
Nicole Balan, Rotary E-Club of Canada One, D-5370

The Beginnings of Rotary International
In 1896, Paul Harris went to Chicago to practice law. One evening, in the early 1900's, Paul went with a professional friend to his suburban home. After dinner, as they strolled through the neighbourhood, Paul's friend introduced him to tradesmen in their stores. This reminded Paul of his grandparent's home in New England. "Why not have a fellowship composed of businessmen from different occupations, without restrictions of politics or religion?" he thought.

In April, the  Rotary E-Club of Canada One made a motion to support a student from the Colima area of Mexico, under the guidance of Project Amigo Canada.
The project has been ongoing for many years, now, and the impact on the people of Colima is immense.
The following is a video of a sponsored student from that area...
